因為我國還是發展中國家，技術不先進，生產造成了浪費。再加上我國有些工廠不節約資源。例如，一家鋼鐵生產廠，他們是怎麼生產鋼鐵的呢，一、隨意開采鐵礦。二、生產有限鋼鐵。三、生產大量廢渣，照這樣看，開採的鐵礦既沒有得到太大的利用，而且還造成了浪費，生產出來的廢渣沒有進行開發利用，同時佔用土地，污染環境。這種生產方式我們叫做「粗放式」。我們如果換另一種方式生產，能否得到節約呢？一、我們嚴格開采鐵礦。二、我們採取先進的工藝，盡量多生產鋼鐵。三、產生廢渣作為原料，生產建築材料。這樣一來，產生的廢渣成了建築材料，又不污染環境，不是一舉兩得嗎？而且我們還做到了「低污染」「低消耗」「高效益」這種生產方式我們叫做「節約式」。
我們不僅要節約資源，還要保護環境。在日常生活中，汽車隨處可見。汽車給我們的生活和工作帶來了方便，但汽車尾氣卻是當今社會最大的污染源，它對環境和人體健康危害很大。因此，限制不斷增長的私家車，減少汽車尾氣排放是保護環境的需要。我們都要養成多做公交車和自行車的習慣。植樹造林是保護環境的有力措施，因為樹木在白天是呼出氧氣，吸收空氣中的二氧化碳，它可以凈化空氣。因此我們要養成愛護樹木的良好習慣，積極加植樹造林活動。我們還要喚醒人們的意識，制止亂砍森林的行為。此外，我們還要在生活中少用一次性的東西。
我們的祖國雖然地大物博，可我國人口眾多。據調查，我國耕地面積排名世界第四，可人均耕地面積卻排在世界第126位以後。因此要養活這么多人口，我們要愛護耕地，不讓我們的耕地受到污染。還有我們的各種礦產、能源、水等資源，人均擁有量也非常少，我們都要養成節約資源的習慣。例如，節約用水、用電，這都是我們在生活中應該做到的。
