Day 4
Today Grandma got a little better, as was evident from the following facts : (a) she could walk three to four meters with the help of my family member, (b) she no longer needed to lie in bed all day long, for she was able to sit securely on the sofa, (c) she expressed herself more clearly than in the three days before; however, there was a lack of consistency between sentences, (d) the myodynamia of her right arm was upgraded to level 2, and that of her right leg remained at level 3, and (e) her signs of life were stable without any abnormality.

Days 5 & 6
Things went smoothly, with nothing worth mentioning.

Day 7
After the routine round of treatment, she could (a) stroll for fifteen to thirty meters with the help of my family member, (b) take off her pants and underwear totally by herself before excreting urine or feces, and (c) articulate three to four sentences, which was a significant improvement upon the situation shortly after the attack. Additionally, the myodynamia of her right arm progressed to level 2-3, and that of her right leg to level 3-4. Nonetheless, no remarkable change happened to the other clinical signs.

Day 8
From this day on, acupuncture therapy and acupressure were administered once per day respectively, whereas the acupoints activated, the dosages of both herbal medicine and chemical medications remained the same as before.

Days 9 through 13
Things went smoothly, nothing particular.

Day 14
On this day, the following facts are worth mentioning: (a) Grandma achieved a basically consistent flow of verbal expression, though some words were still unintelligible, (b) the myodynamia of her right arm advanced to level 3-4, and that of her right leg to level 4, (c) she was able to walk over five hundred meters without anyone else』s help, and (d) she herself managed to get rid of urinary and fecal excretions by using the toilet seat. Then I went with her to a herbal clinic in the city of Hengyang, Hunan, for a medical check-up. The computed tomography showed that over the left basal ganglion was a dense shadow, which was about three centimeters long and one and a half centimeters wide. Also, the CT value was 65Hu or so. Around the shadow was a low-density strip of brain edema and the left ventricle was found to have been slightly pressed. Fortunately, except for that, the remaining ventricles, cerebral cisternae, and cerebral sulcus remained normal. After the check-up, she walked home without any help, accompanied by me. While walking, she took steady steps without hesitating or shaking; moreover, she was in good spirits, with her face pink and her voice loud.

After getting home, Grandma received the routine treatment as mentioned before. With regard to chemical medications, adenosine triphosphate (two tablets a time, three times a day), Piracetam (two tablets a time, three times a day), and aspirin enteric-coated tablets (two tablets a time, three times a day)
were added. Likewise, seven more acupoints, Naohu, Left Naokong, Right Naokong (the three being connected with the brain), Shenting, Left Benshen, Right Benshen (the three being connected with consciousness), and Lianquan (with three needles inserted into it, being connected with the tongue) were activated in order to speed up the restoration of intelligence, memory, and verbal ability. The herbal tea incorporated Sang and Qinjiu, each ten grams, for the purpose of smoothing the four limbs and restoring physical ability as soon as possible.

Days 15 through 19
Things went smoothly, nothing particular.

Day 20
The following delighting results were observed: (a) in general, Grandma could take care of herself, (b) her verbal ability greatly improved and made effective communication possible though some indivial words were indistinct, (c) the myodynamia of her right arm was enhanced to level 4-5, and that of her right leg to level 5, (d) her blood pressure returned to the normal values, 138/80mmHg, and (e) she could independently perform the daily activities such as taking a shower, getting dressed, and eating meals. A few days later, another computerized tomography showed that, after the long period of treatment, the original basal hematoma in her left brain was largely resolved, the size and shape of her ventricles were normal, the fracture of the cerebral sulcus remained the same, and the central structure was not moved.
