英語作文的形式有說明文（exposition），議論文（argumentation），敘述文（narration）和描寫文（description）四種。
不論寫哪一種作文，你都必須首先選詞（word），造句（sentence），然後組段（paragraph），成文（position）。因此，中學生學慣用英語寫作文最好不要一開始就忙於追究說明文怎麼個寫法，議論文怎麼個寫法等等，而應該花一定的時間和精力練習寫作文的基本功，也就是學習和獲取選詞、造句、組段、謀篇的知識和能力。
一、遴選詞彙（wording） 1、分辨語體。英語詞有書面語體和口語體之分。
寫作文時，應多用書面語詞為主，少用口語詞，以便使作文的語體和用詞的色彩和諧一致。 2、識別詞義。
英語裡面有許多同義詞，還有一詞多義的情況。選詞造句的時候必須注意自己在使用詞語的哪一個意思，以及能不能那樣用。
3、明確詞性。英語有一詞多性的現象，也有同一個詞根派生出幾個單詞，它們的含義大致相同，但詞性各不相同。
4、注意拼寫。 5、使用詞典。
寫作文應當勤查詞典。對拼寫、移行、發音、詞性，詞義或用法有疑問，都可以向詞典求教。
詞典有兩大類，漢英詞典和英漢詞典。同學們應該試用一下英漢雙解詞典，並逐漸過渡到使用英-英詞典，即用英語解釋英語的詞典，這對准確掌握詞義，學習多種表達方式很有好處。
二、組織語句sentence-making 句子是表達意思相對完整的語言單位。尤其是書面語言，起碼是句子作為表述單位。
造句首先要注意語法問題。 1、主謂齊全。
作為一個句子，在一般情況下都應具備主語和謂語尤其是謂語動詞是必不可少的。 2、關系一致。
英語的謂語動詞是手主語支配的。因此，主謂關系要一致。
同時，代詞指代關系的一致，句子前後時態關系的一致等等。 3、詞序恰當。

在語法過關的基礎上，造句還應該主要幾個修辭上的問題。 1、突出中心。
這里包含兩層意思。首先，一個句子應該有一個中心意思，不能前面說東後面到西，令人不得要領。
第二，確定了一個句子的中心要表達什麼意思，就要運用修辭手段把這個意思強調出來。 2、前後連貫。
這是指一個句子里的詞語要銜接得當。關系清楚，合乎邏輯。
3、語句簡練。不要堆砌修飾性詞語。
在沒有把握的情況下，不要用從句。應該多用簡單句。
三、組織文章段落 段落是文章中相對獨立的一個部分，表達一個相對完整的想法（idea）。它通常由主題句、支撐句、例句和結尾句組成。
1、主題句（topic sentence） 主旨句揭示該段內容的中心，放在段落的開頭。從修辭上看，主旨句宜用比較簡潔的句子，使讀者容易領會該段的主旨。
2、支撐句（supporting sentence） 支撐句的內容必須圍繞主題句，支持主題句。使主題句更加具體，易懂。
使讀者順利進入文章中。偏離主題句的支撐句等於畫蛇添足，使讀者感到進入了迷魂陣中，應該刪去。

英語考試作文試題的一個最大的特點就是時限性，即在有限的時間內（一般分配30分鍾）按試題要求完成作文試題。

第一步. 寫文章的基本步驟 讀題，分析題目。
一個論點，正反論證永遠都是最有力的。列大綱，就那種簡單的大綱就行。
列一個大綱最多就四五分鍾，除非遇到很變態的題目要想很久。 寫論文的時候，我不知道大家一般都在想什麼，但我一般就寫這一段主旨句的時候，腦子里就趕快想例子。
寫例子的時候，腦子里就趕快想這一段的結尾句怎麼措辭。寫結尾句的時候，就想下一段的主旨句怎麼寫。
這樣比較快！ 最後，檢查。有人有檢查的習慣，我沒有這個習慣，但是如果有時間的話，檢查一下語法啦拼寫啦之類會有好處。
第二步. 關於一篇文章的寫作架構 說中國文章是八股文，但其實英文文章才是最八股的八股文。這一點經過過去一年狂讀老外的論文得到了證實。
為啥現在讀國外的東西越來越快呢？主要是因為他們的文章寫的太清晰易懂了，每段話的第一句就是這段的主旨句，然後一個例子，然後一個結尾句，論點、論據、論證三部分特別容易找到，所以一篇很長的文章很快就可以讀完。所以我說，咱們寫文章也要這樣，他們老外覺得這是好文章，你考托福雅思GRE，為了得高分，也得寫成他們喜歡的這種樣子。

3. 結尾句：其實結尾句就是本段主旨句的paraphrase，用另外一種說法說一遍就行！ 第四段：論證三段（反面論證） 1. 某東西重要，沒有了某東西就會有怎樣不好的後果，提出一個壞的後果，必須要有本段的主旨句！ 2. 論據：就是舉例子，舉一個沒有了這個東西以後的壞結果的實例。 3. 結尾句：其實結尾句就是本段主旨句的paraphrase，用另外一種說法說一遍就行！ 第五段：結尾段：明確重申中心，必須必須必須必須必須有結尾句！結尾句就是本篇文章中心句paraphrase！ 這里說一下，這種結構里，第一段必須有，任何情況下都必須有！第二段到第四段，你想說幾個理由就說幾個理由，一般至少要兩個理由，這兩個理由可以是一正一反，也可以是兩正，我鼓勵大家寫一個反的理由，主要是1.為字數考慮；2. 為論證邏輯的嚴密性考慮。
最後一段結尾段，一般國外大學寫論文時，可以沒有結尾段，但是如果考托福雅思GRE，那麼時間允許的情況下，盡量要寫出結尾段，這樣可以讓文章更完整。 第三步，如果字數不足 字數其實是很好湊的，一可以用例子來湊字，二可以用正反論證來湊字。
比如，如果你寫了兩個理由以後，發現兩個自然段加起來字數還是不夠，那麼就可以寫一個反的段落，兩段變成三段，論證的是一個論點，字數也上去了。 第四步，文章的修改以及互改 對文章進行修改是一定能進步的，可以自己修改，可以找別人修改。
我一般是自己修改，後來寫得多了以後，寫來寫去也沒啥可改的。如果希望對文章進行修改的話，最好再一開始練習寫作的時候，就和水平較好的筒子組成寫作小組，大家要寫一起寫，寫一樣的題目，一起掐時間，每次練習都當成模考一樣練，然後彼此給對方互相改，這樣比較有效。
如果大家寫的題目不一樣，人家一是不太有心情看你的文章，二是對你這個題目不熟悉，就不容易改出好建議來。關於互改小組，現在太傻寄託之類的都會有這種小組，這種小組我以前參加過一天，也學著別人發一個帖子，諸如「某某題處女作，歡迎批磚」一類的，發現要麼是沒人給改，要麼就是別人敷衍式地給你改改、主要是希望你幫他改。
對於這樣的互改小組，如果能參加到一個非常好、互動很強的、組長很有組織性和主動性的小組，那麼進步會很大的。所以要參加，就找個好的，要麼就乾脆別參加。
第五步. 關於例子 現在網上有很多那種作文論據例子集合啊、大全啊之類的，這種東西下載兩三個，稍微背背就行了，永遠要記住，例子不是關鍵，關鍵是你的論點和你論證的方式，例子只是讓你的論點論證過程更充實更飽滿，例子不等於全部。如果花了五個小時在背例子上，卻花了30分鍾寫文章，那就不對了。
背一堆例子發現不會用，也是白搭。所以，不要總花很多時間逛論壇、並 *** 地以收集例子為借口，其實你就是 *** 地不想寫不想下筆練習嘛。
你還是得應該逼自己動筆才行。一般例子的來源有兩大種，一是平時博覽群書的長時間的積累；二是為了應付考試臨時從網上下載例子來背。
兩種方法都可以，哪個對你更有效就用哪個。 第六步. 寫出來的東西過於簡單，膚淺 四六級的東西不要怕簡單，句子簡單不代表一定很幼稚。
外國作家有的人的東西很簡單，從來不用復雜句，但人家寫出來的東西不得不讓人佩服。所以不要妄想通過復雜句來讓自己的文章變得有思想，要知道，思想是思想，句子形式只是表象而已。

英文和中文的作文寫法都是大同小異 對於《我的家庭》《我的班級》這一類的作文以 總--分--總的方法寫比較好 eg:There are three people in our family.They are my father,my father and I. 而對於《介紹自己生活的城市的天氣》《我喜歡的季節》這一類介紹氣候的作文 就以 分--總的方法寫比較好 先以自己的視角描寫比較好 eg:I like spring very much.It's warm.
另外，如果想把英文寫得好 就要多用些 語法技巧 像是限制性定語什麼的 ，還有多積累 短語 諺語 像是英文中的 「瓮中捉鱉」 shoot fish in a barrel
