對外語的翻譯要講究「信、達、雅」，顧名思義，信就是文章意思要忠實原文，不要斷章取義，也不能添油加醋。達就是意思要翻譯准確到位，雅就是要講究語法修辭和潤色。翻譯英文詩也不例外。
齊文昱先生常說：「析義理於精微之蘊，辨字句於毫發之間」。我所能做的，便是盡一己之力，躬自踐行，努力演繹我所看見的典籍中那些或清貴，或華麗，或超曠，或雄強的美妙語言。
中國的譯者偏向於「音譯」，即偏重保留古詩的押韻的美感。同時，翻譯比較嚴格的保留了詩歌本來的字面意思，即便遇到英語中沒有的內容，也偏好通過注釋等來補充。
而國外的漢學家翻譯的古詩則基本是「意譯」，不太注重古詩本身的字面意思，也不偏重音韻的優美。很多時候外國的漢學家翻譯過去的已經不成為「詩」，而更像是散文。
