Good evening, Honorable judges, Ladies and gentlemen.

It』s my great pleasure to stand here to present my speech—Change the World,Change Ourselves

It』s noticable that western holidays are becoming increasingly popular day by day, while chinese traditional festivals are being somewhat neglected. Not long before about 10 doctors in beijing university and qinghua unversity announced that we should reject the invasion of western holidays ,because they regard western holidays as an challenge against our traditional festivals and culture.

Frankly speaking, i don't quite agree with them.Indeed, we should never neglect or even discard our traditonal festivals as china boasts a brilliant history and splendid traditions. (examples).But why can't we absorb the meaningful western holidays and culture.

There are obvious reasons why some western holidays are so popular in china. On the one hand, some of the western holidays which we chinese don't have are reasonable and meaningful, such as father's day and april fool's day etc. On the other hand,the prevalence of globalization enables western culture to prevail in china. Overwhelmed by such a trend,chinese unconsiciously get involved in western holidays and culture.

With the further development of the whole world, the cultural communication between different countries and nations becomes faster and more and more important. We are indeed from different nations, but we are the citizens of the same world, so the outstanding culture of different nations is the commom wealth of everyone on the earth.The only way for us to protect our traditional culture is to reject the foreign culture? The answer is definitely no. What we ought to do is to spare no effort to ecate chinese to get to know and treasure our splendid traditions instead of rejecting foreign culture. Only by ecating can we set our confidence and belief towards our culture. Only by ecating can we play a really important role in the world.

隨著全球的進一步發展，不同國家和民族之間的文化交流變得越來越快，越來越重要。我們確實來自不同的國家，但我們是同一個世界的公民，所以不同國家的優秀文化是地球上每個人的共同財富。我們保護我們的傳統文化的唯一途徑是拒絕外來文化？答案肯定不是。我們應該做的是不遺餘力地教育中國人去了解和珍惜我們燦爛的傳統而不是拒絕外國文化。只有通過教育，我們才能樹立我們對文化的信心和信念。只有通過教育，我們才能在世界上發揮非常重要的作用。

銆銆Big Ideas Change the World is a Friends of the Earth project. It seizes on the biggest ideas out there for enhancing our lives, preventing the mass-extinction of species and looking after the planet.
銆銆We think you'll be surprised by some of the ideas. Share and debate the topics below. The list will grow as more and more of you add your voice.
銆銆Humans have done some amazing things: space travel, global communications, advances in medicine. New challenges like the growing demands on the Earth's resources and the threats of climate changerequire big ideas. Carrying on as we are will cause profound damage to human welfare, economies and ecosystems. Where do you stand on the ideas below?

銆銆Energy
銆銆We all need access to energy for well-being. The availability of concentrated forms of energy (notably fossil fuels) has supported technological progress and development of civilisations.
銆銆Challenge
銆銆Energy use is currently dominated by fossil fuels leading to dangerous climate change.
銆銆Many people do not have adequate and/or affordable energy. Others use it profligately.
銆銆Even taking into account the potential for energy efficiency, well-being for everyone will require increased aggregate energy use.
銆銆Renewable energy in the form of solar, wind, water, geothermal and bio-waste (such as sewage) is plentiful. The means to concentrate and store this energy largely exist.
銆銆However, the design, management and ownership of large-scale, centralised energy supply seems to make it impractical to provide low-carbon energy for everyone from renewables.
銆銆On the other hand, energy decentralised systems with more community ownership could offer multiple benefits like: stronger local economies; resilience to extreme weather; stronger social networks; and greater environmental awareness.
銆銆Research questions
銆銆Looking at design, management and ownership of energy systems - how can we harness affordable, low-carbon energy supplies for all?
銆銆What are the benefits of decentralised energy and energy efficiency?
銆銆Would these approaches also encourage innovation in areas such as waste management?
銆銆Use of the research
銆銆Friends of the Earth has led the way in the UK on decentralised energy. We spearheaded a successful campaign to introce a feed-in tariff for small-scale renewables and successful legal challenges to prevent the Government fatally weakening the financial incentive. We're now working with sister groups in Friends of the Earth International to get a global feed-in tariff so that poorer communities across the world could benefit from decentralised energy.
銆銆This research will support the campaign and inform future campaigns in related areas such as waste management.
