第一，在與西方人面對面談話的時候要注意保持一定的距離(keep a certain distance)。當然，不同社會文化習俗的人保持的距離是不一樣的。對英美人而言，這個距離是3英尺，如果是面對東歐人和南美人，這個距離還可以再近些，但仍要在2英尺以上。第二，在跟英美人第一次見面相互握手的時候，一定要有點力度，如果握起手來有氣無力，或者只伸出手指尖來給人握，就會給對方冷冰冰的感覺，英文中管這種握手叫做wet handshake。
