大學英語四級考試，即CET-4，College English Test Band 4的縮寫，是由國家教育部回高等教育司主持的全國性英答語考試。考試的主要對象是根據教育大綱修完大學英語四級的在校專科生、本科生或研究生。大學英語四、六級標准化考試自1986年末開始籌備，1987年正式實施。

大學英語考試根據理工科本科和文理科本科用的兩個《大學英語教學大綱》，由教育部（原國家教育委員會）高等教育司組織的全國統一的單科性標准化教學考試，分大學英語四級考試（CET-4）和大學英語六級考試（CET-6）兩種。

每年考試過後8月份或9月份公布成績並頒發成績單，根據教育部規定四六級考試不設置及格線，四級425分(含425分)以上可以報考六級，所以大家普遍認為四六級的合格線為425分。

報考資格：
大學英語四級考試報考資格：
1.在修讀或已修讀完大學英語第四冊的漢班、民考漢班學生；
2.2008級、2009級民考民班學生；
3.2009級、2010級雙語班學生；
4.因CET4未通過未取得學位的返校本科生、研究生；
5.已取得「大學英語應用能力測試」合格證的專科生。
大學英語六級考試報考資格：
1.四級考試成績達到425分以上（含425分）的在校本（專）科學生（持成績單原件報名）；
2.2010級、2011級研究生；
3.因CET6未通過未取得學位的返校研究生。
大學英語應用能力測試報考資格：
