This is a good or hard question for anyone to address, 'cause it's too general to be answered in a few words.
If you hope your students feel that you're a great teacher, you must possess sth unique and distinctive, which makes them admire your from the bottom of their hearts.
For instance, first you must have good pronunciations, that is, you can speak perfect English, either with a British/ London accent or with an American/New York accent. Anyway, don't speak it with a local Chinese accent.
Second, you must have the ability to think in English and express yourself in fluent English impromtu in any case.
Third, you must be able to dig out the most important language points in any learning materials available and simplify the difficult points in clear-cut, easy or plain English. It's bad for a teacher to explain a simple point by making it more complex.
Fourth, you need to tap into any teaching material, making sure what teaching objective you are supposed to arrive at and then how to make it.
Fifth, you are expected to know your pupils well enough, about their concerns, interests, strong points and weaknesses.
Sixth, you should be kind and close to your pupils in and out of class.
Seventh, you'd better keep up with the pace/times, familiar with what is going on around the world, esp. about their idols like pop stars, sports stars, etc.
Eighth, you are to know some fun learning games, in which you can interact with your students and enable the students to interact well among themselves.

There's no definite cure-all teaching approach which can well apply to any learning situation. A good teaching method depends on the level of the instructor and how well his/her pupils perform. To be a good teacher, you are supposed to learn, learn and learn, adapt yourself to new situations and then make improvements, whatever.
