這天，杭州靈隱寺來了一個年輕的遊客，此人正是宋之問。晚間，宋之問於寺間長廊漫步，見皓月當空，野山魃魃，便詩興大發，吟出「鷲嶺郁昭嘵，龍宮隱寂寥」兩句詩來，自覺有些意味，可是下面兩句卻一時接不上來。長廊盡頭，宋之問忽見一老僧打坐。他便上前招呼。老僧抬眼寒喧幾句，道：「老衲倒有兩句——」於是，他緩緩吟來：「樓觀滄海日，門聽浙江潮。」宋之問聽了，深感佩服。
宋之問回房細細品味，覺得老和尚的兩句妙不可言，第二天一早就興沖沖地跑去拜見老和尚，可不見人影。正在徘徊悵然之際，一個小和尚經過，宋之問趕忙上去詢問，和尚道：「噢，他就是駱賓王啊。」
