首先, 需要选一本好的口语教材. 大家不要小看教材的作用. 我所居住的大学已为该校教师开办多期口语班, 均由外教授课, 但几乎没有一期是成功的. 原因就在于高估了该校教师的口语水平, 从来没有采用基础的口语教材系统教授. 可怜这些硕士博士, 包括GRE高分者, 到现在还不会开口说英语. 外教就更不幸, 每次问“Any volunteer?” 大家都低头“沈默是金”, 可怜这位白胡子老头竟然要抛球决定由谁回答!
与“沈默是金”相反, 有人非常敢说, 随便逮个人就乱说一气. 我有个朋友就是这样, 经常会问我“Do you want to talk to me tomorrow?” (他以为他是周润发?!) 时间他是花了不少, 英语沙龙更是每晚必到, 说得也很流利了(语速够快), 但他的口语怎么听怎么别扭. 为什么? 就因为他只愿意与人聊天, 而从不肯好好背一下他买的那一大堆口语书中的句型. (他嫌太简单!---却一句也背不出!)
英语绝不是你想怎么说就怎么说的, 很多表达都有其固定的方式, 因此想要学好口语, 就至少要学上一套系统的口语教材.
怎么才算“系统”呢? 它应该是按情景分类, 告诉你在什么样的场合说什么样的话. 象李阳的教材就不宜作为入门教材, 句型是够丰富了, 但没说清楚该怎么使用.
口语教材最好是附有相应的文化背景介绍, 因为东西方文化差异大, 同样的场景, 用中式思维表达很可能会闹笑话. 详见“胡敏老师谈学英语的六大策略”.
若所选教材未配有文化背景介绍, 可另外读些相关书籍弥补.
最好选用由英美人士撰写的经典口语教材. 如<<走遍美国>>, <<英语九○○句>>等. 象现在热销的<<实战英语>>, 错误百出且不说, 其中居然有这样的对话
