Giving advice is not one of the easiest tasks.You can be put under a lot of pressure,especially if you generally (unintentionally) give bad advice.And of course,you love your friends and family -- but sometimes it's hard to listen to them rant on and on about their lives.It might not be as hard as you thought.
1 Listen with utmost attention to the person who needs your help.Listen to their entire issue; don't get distracted!Think about what they say and process the information.If you can't completely understand the problem,or the person is not speaking clearly,ask them to repeat what they just said until you get it.
2 Think about what you would do in their situation.Consider the option of telling the person what you would do.Be careful with this,however,use phrases like "I think I would try" or "You know what might work".

4 Tell them what they want to hear.Flattery is great,and the person who needs advice will definitely appreciate it.Just be careful not to overkill with the compliments and focus on actually helping them.A simple "You're way better than him anyway," can really help.
5 Focus on the positive.Don't make them feel worse than they already do.They've probably tossed and turned all night about the negatives,but completely skipped over the good in the situation.That's where you come in.List all the things they can gain from this experience.
6 Make a suggestion.Tell them that it's just a suggestion,and let them know they are not obliged to do anything.Everyone's morals differ to some extent,and what may be perfectly fine with you might not go to well with the other person.
7 Keep it a secret,especially if the person insisted you not tell anyone.If you want to achieve and maintain a wise,advice-giving image,then you need to commit.Don't blabber about it just to score some gossip points.
