因为我国还是发展中国家，技术不先进，生产造成了浪费。再加上我国有些工厂不节约资源。例如，一家钢铁生产厂，他们是怎么生产钢铁的呢，一、随意开采铁矿。二、生产有限钢铁。三、生产大量废渣，照这样看，开采的铁矿既没有得到太大的利用，而且还造成了浪费，生产出来的废渣没有进行开发利用，同时占用土地，污染环境。这种生产方式我们叫做“粗放式”。我们如果换另一种方式生产，能否得到节约呢？一、我们严格开采铁矿。二、我们采取先进的工艺，尽量多生产钢铁。三、产生废渣作为原料，生产建筑材料。这样一来，产生的废渣成了建筑材料，又不污染环境，不是一举两得吗？而且我们还做到了“低污染”“低消耗”“高效益”这种生产方式我们叫做“节约式”。
我们不仅要节约资源，还要保护环境。在日常生活中，汽车随处可见。汽车给我们的生活和工作带来了方便，但汽车尾气却是当今社会最大的污染源，它对环境和人体健康危害很大。因此，限制不断增长的私家车，减少汽车尾气排放是保护环境的需要。我们都要养成多做公交车和自行车的习惯。植树造林是保护环境的有力措施，因为树木在白天是呼出氧气，吸收空气中的二氧化碳，它可以净化空气。因此我们要养成爱护树木的良好习惯，积极加植树造林活动。我们还要唤醒人们的意识，制止乱砍森林的行为。此外，我们还要在生活中少用一次性的东西。
我们的祖国虽然地大物博，可我国人口众多。据调查，我国耕地面积排名世界第四，可人均耕地面积却排在世界第126位以后。因此要养活这么多人口，我们要爱护耕地，不让我们的耕地受到污染。还有我们的各种矿产、能源、水等资源，人均拥有量也非常少，我们都要养成节约资源的习惯。例如，节约用水、用电，这都是我们在生活中应该做到的。
