和证明的对象。论点完全是你自己提出来的，无所谓对错，无所谓好坏，只有一点需要注意，就是“是否容易得到证明”。拿 一个托福作文的例子来说，题目要求阐述“你喜欢在大公司工作还是小公司工作”，你可以选择“喜欢在大公司”，也可以选择“喜欢在小公司”，也可以选择“依 据不同的情况而定”。在作文考试中（尤其是托福、雅思、GRE等），考官是 不会质疑你的观点的，你也完全不用担心自己的观点是不是会引起考官的什么特别想法，他们只关心一点，就是你是否能有效地证明你的论点。 （2） 理由（论证点）：传统的观点会说“论据”是支持“论点”的，其实不然，真正支持论点的应该是理由，或者叫论证点。（注意，有人把这个叫“分论点”是不对 的，因为分论点实际上本质还是论点，是在某种特殊结构文章中才会涉及到的一种概念，这个有机会再专门说。）理由的重点是“为什么论点成立”，也就是说，你 需要建立这样的逻辑关系：“因为理由A成立，所以论点成立”。比 如，对上面提到的题目，如果你选择的观点是“喜欢在大公司工作”，那么你可以选择这样的理由：在大公司工作的薪水比在小公司工作高。这个理由选择是正确 的，因为它符合刚才我们说的逻辑关系。大多数情况下，同学容易犯的错误是写的理由跟论点之间没有必然的因果关系，甚至，在文章里找不到明确的支持论点的理 由，只是在平铺地叙述一些论据，这种文章的论证显然是不正确，或者不严谨的。 （3）论据：按照（2）的阐述，论据不是支持论点的，而是支持 理由的，所以，论据自然需要满足的逻辑关系就是“因为论据A成立，所以理由 A成立”。论据实际上是证明理由的证据，可以分为两种，一种叫分析性论据，一种叫实例性论据。其中，分析性论据是同学们最会写的，它包括了假设、对比、类比、定义、推理、演绎。比 如说，我们经常写的“如果你……你就会……”实际上就是一种分析性论据。实 例性论据是很多同学不会写，甚至觉得写不出来的，包括了事 实、数据、案例、专家意见、名人轶事、名言警句。需要提醒的是，在这六种实例性论据中，只有前面三种是可靠的，不需要证明的，而专家意见在 使用的时候通常需要提供专家意见成立的依据，而最后两种是基本上不被认可的。可是遗憾的是，我们的很多同学，甚至老师，都把后面两种作为了上课的主要内 容，导致很多同学在搜集论据这个问题上一开始就误入歧途了。在论证过程中，分析性论据是不可少的，但是不能单独存在，因为所有的分析都是你自己在解释自己 的理由为什么成立，而不是客观事实表明你的理由成立。严谨论证要求的，说简 单点是“你认为成立”且“事实表明成立”且“若干事实表明成立”。所以，你现在明白为什么你的作文总是被人认为“论证不严谨”了吧？ （4） 论证过程：论证实际上不是一个东西，而是一个过程，即：用论据证明理由，用理由证明论点的过程。这里我们需要考虑的是，整个证明的过程是否严谨，是否是客 观地表明了理由的成立，以及论点的成立。换句话说，论据和理由之间的因果关系并不是你强加上去的，而是客观事实表明这个理由是靠谱的。这里容易出现的问题 是“以偏概全”。很多时候，你可能找到了一个事实来证明某个理由，结果，只有这个事实是存在的，而没有第二个或者更多的事实同样能证明这个理由，用专业的 话说，“缺乏泛化过程”是论证过程不严谨的一种表现。比如 说，你举了个例子说“你家隔壁王二狗在大公司的薪水如何如何高，所以大公司的薪水高”但是你却没有说，除了王二狗同学以外，还有其他的类似案例，这个就是 一种“以偏概全”的做法。翻翻很多同学的文章，几乎都是看不到“泛化”的过程的。 （5）结论：这是一个非常让人纠结的概念。很多人认为，结 论就是直接对观点进行重复，但实际上不尽然。真正的论证结论是不需要说也能呈现的。所以，如果你的论证过程没有问题的话，结论应该是一个很自然的结果，而不是生硬地强加上去的。因此，按照这个说法，议论文的结 论部分可不可以没有呢？答案是肯定的--可以！ 的英文写作课上，很多老师都乐此不疲地在教育学生如何写出“漂亮”的句子，其理由是：在文章中有一些“漂亮”的句子，会让文章出彩，成为文章的“亮点”， 从而获得读者的青睐，在考试中也就更容易得到高分。这个理由看起来貌似没什么问题，的确，在文章中写出“漂亮”的句子不是一件坏事儿，但是关键在于：什么是“漂亮”的句子？他们的定义大体上可以概括成两点，一是句子一定 要有长度，太短的句子是不会吸引人的。二是句子一定要有一定的“难词”，全是“低级”词汇是不会让句子出彩的。可是，事实真的如此么？我顺手拿起桌子上的 一本书，随便翻开了一页，并且仔细地阅读了一下这一页，发现几乎每一个句子都没有超过两行，并且也没见到那种令人“毛骨悚然”的“高级词汇”。再随便摘抄 一句，是这么写的“Of course, before you can attend to the 火涂炭。”感觉如何？是不是觉得有点晕菜？道理很简单，如果你在你的文章中写出类似这样的英文句子，美国人同样也“晕菜”。 因此，我们要写 出让人能看懂的句子，就需要满足一个条件，即：你所写的结构，用的词汇，必 须是符合把英语作为母语的人的使用习惯的。换句话说，就是你不能创造说法，因为，你还不是像莎士比亚或者狄更斯这样的大师。那么，“准确”和“习惯”就成为了语言使用 的两个基本准则。而要做到这一点，模仿就是 学习使用语言的唯一正确途径。我们可以回忆一下自己学习中文的过程，实际上从小开始，我们就一直在模仿各种语言表达方式，在小学做“组词”和“造句”练习 的时候，一旦有“创新”行为，立刻就会被老师指责为“错词”和“病句”，这才保证了我们今天能基本正确地使用中文这种语言。而遗憾的是，我们的英语学习从 子，抽取其中起到支撑作用的部分作为结构。我们可以把句子分为“可变部分”和“固定部分”， 前者是可以根据内容不同而进行替换的，而后者则是在任何句子中都可以使用的。因此，我们可以定义一个概念--抽象结构，任何一个句子都有抽象结构，抽象结构=固定部 分+符号化的可变部分。通常，句子中的动词和形容词构成的部分容易成为固定部分，而名词性概念容易成为可变部分。比如我们之 前举出的中文例子，“谢谢阿姨”可以归纳出的抽象结构是“谢谢A＂，其中“谢谢”是固定部分，A是符号化的可变部分。同样，上面给出的英文句子可以概括为 “A spark B and fuel C"，其中文意思是，“A刺激了B的产生，并且让C发展很壮大。”这个句子 中，spark和fuel是写得非常精彩的，它从逻辑上表达了A和B，C的因果关系，同时从语义上提现了一种“星星之火，可以燎原”的感觉。
