这是发生在十几年前的一个真实的故事。
一个村庄遭遇洪灾，肆虐的洪水横冲直撞，把无数农家冲毁，许多人在洪水中挣扎。人们在离岸20多米的一棵大树和岸边的树之间拉了一根绳子，形成一道绳坝，拦截从上游冲下来的人和物。这时，只见上游一对母女相拥着被洪水冲下，母亲50多岁，白发在浑黄的洪水中时隐时现，十分醒目。女儿20多岁，两人在洪水中奋力挣扎着。岸边的许多人见状不停地举手呼喊，叫洪水中的母女俩往绳坝这边靠。她们听到岸上的叫喊，挣扎着向绳坝靠近。但洪水湍急，母女俩努力了半天离绳坝却还有一段距离，眼看就要擦过拴着绳坝的大树。就在一刹那间，母亲奋力把女儿往绳坝边一推，女儿顺势抱住大树，得救了。而在洪水中的母亲却被推时反冲的惯力冲到河心，在洪水中挣扎了几下，消失在奔腾的河水中。被救上岸的女儿失声痛哭，岸边的居民也流下了感动的泪水。
这一幕前后仅维持了一两分钟时间，却在人们的脑海中牢牢定格。面对生与死的选择，母亲毫不犹豫地把生的希望留给了女儿，把死的威胁留给了自己，这一瞬间折射出的不正是人世间最博大无私、最崇高的母爱吗？
