2、缺乏动机， 学习时热时冷。学习动机是直接推动学生努力学习的内动力，是决定学生学习成效的重要因素。由于初中学生正处于少年向青年的转变时期，他们的情绪很不稳定， 时而兴奋快乐， 时而沮丧消极， 学习态度很大程度上受情绪支配， 学习热情忽高忽低。 这种学习上的“冷热病” 在初中生中普遍存在， 严重影响了他们学习的稳步提高。 语言学习一定要天天学、 日日用， 才 能越学越好， 所以英语学习也贵在坚持。 但许多学生的情况往往相反， 或一曝十寒， 或浅尝辄止。 知识、 技能和能力得不到合理的发展， 一遇到困难只想打退堂鼓。
3、缺乏持久的学习兴趣和热情 使学生英语学习兴趣下降直至丧失的主要因素有： 音标不会拼读， 单词记不住， 文章前读后忘； 成绩始终不理想， 学习没有成功感； 遇到困难和问题未能得到及时帮助和纠正和其它一些因素。
4、缺乏良好的学习方法和习惯 相当多的学生由于没有掌握科学和学习方法， 没有形成良好的学习习惯， 学习效率很低。 由于“不会学” 而导致“不爱学和不愿学”，成了 学习成绩差的一般规律。 因此， 学习方法得当、 学习习惯良好是提高学习效率、 由“厌学” 变成“爱学” 的关键所在。
