英语日记的格式与中文日记大体一样。英语日记通常由两部分组成，即书端和正文。
英语日记的第一行，要写明年、月、日与星期，然后要写明当天的气候状况，日期通常顶格写，后面是星期，天气状况写在右上角。如果是游记，还要写明地点。

3. 时态
写日记的时间一般是在下午或晚上，有时也有在第二天补记。所记叙的事情通常发生在过去，所以常用一般过去时。但如果要记叙天气、描写景色、展望未来、议论某事或对话引语等，可以使用一般现在时或一般将来时，以生动再现当时的情景。
4. 养成积累词语的习惯
日记是对生活中方方面面的事情的描述和感想的表达，所以写日记要用到单词面很广，这就要求英语学习者在平时要养成积累单词的好习惯，而把记忆的单词运用到日记中更是起到温故作用。值得注意的是，在写日记时，我们都会遇到很多不会写的单词。这时千万不要就此止步，而要先空出来，或者用拼音代替，等一篇日记写完了再查词典不上所缺的单词，并且重点记忆这些单词。这是通过这样的方式，我们才能更快地积累单词和提高英语水平。
