Sustainable development of eco-tourism was firstly proposed by Ceballas-Lascurain, the special advisor of IUCN, in 1983. He set up two important points for eco-tourism. The first one, the object of eco-tourism is natural scenery and the second one, this object of eco-tourism should not be destroyed.
This paper deepens the study and research of Sustainable Development of Eco-tourism theoretically, methodologically and practically. This paper consists of totally 6 chapters includng the literature review part. The background, concepts, characteristics of the formation of eco-tourism and the related theories of the evaluation of the sustainable development are mainly introced in the literature review part and the review of the course of study home and aboard as well. In the main part of the paper, the methodology solutions and technology routes are introced. And it also evaluates the degree of sustainable development of eco-tourism in Chongqing with the model of sustainable development of eco-tourism in Chongqing beside which is expected to supply evidences for dicision making of programming and constructing the eco-tourism in Chongqing. The main conclusions are listed below.
1.The eco-tourism resources of Chongqing is investigated and preliminary counted, including the geographical location, water resources, distribution of major tourist attractions. The factors that impact the eco-tourism development in Chongqing, such as overall economical operating environment, social integrated background, the quality of ecological environment.
2.The paper presents the advantages and limitations of the development of eco-tourism in Chongqing. Chongqing's points like her unique natural tourism resources in the humanities, the rapid socio-economic development, the traffic-building projects of "Chongqing in one hour"&"The urban inhalf an hour" provide an oppotinity for the development of eco-tourism. But because of the not-sound-enough eco-tourism laws, not reasonable management of eco-tourism, the low level of quality of ecological environment and the weak awareness of the citizens to protect the environment, the development of eco-tourism in Chongqing is restricted.

4.Chongqing's ecological city comprehensive evaluation system includes 4 layers, the overall goal layer, the criteria layer, the element layer and the index layer. The overall goal layer is the degree of sustainable development of eco-tourism in Chongqing. The criteria layer is the 3 main factor thatimpact the development, economy, environment and society. The element layer includes 10 indicators, the overall economic level, the tourism benefits, the operating of eco-tourism, the quality of eco-tourism resources, the quality of eco-tourism environment, eco-environmental benefits, the social integrated background, eco-tourism management, social benefits of eco-tourism and the coordination between eco-tourism and society. There are 31 indicators in the index layer.
5.Using AHP and multi-linear method of weighting function, the paper set up a model of assessment for sustainable development of eco-tourism according to the Chongqing eco-tourism indicators of sustainable development system. And the paper advances an assessment system in accordance with the related national standards and then assesses the degree of sustainable development of eco-tourism in Chongqing from 2001 to 2006 with the standard of the data in 2001. The results shows that the degree of sustainable development of eco-tourism in Chongqing is in the preliminary stage of the sustainable development and maintains an overall upward trend.
