第八訣：善用通道，莫入電梯。按規范標准設計建造的建築物，都會有兩條以上逃生樓梯、通道或安全出日。發生火災時，要根據情況選擇進入相對較為安全的樓梯通道。除可以利用樓梯外，還可以利用建築物的陽台、窗檯、天面屋頂等攀到周圍的安全地點沿著落水管、避雷線等建築結構中凸出物滑下樓也可脫險。在高層建築中，電梯的供電系統在火災時隨時會斷電或因熱的作用電梯變形而使人被困在電梯內同時由於電梯井猶如貫通的煙囪般直通各樓層，何毒的煙霧直接威脅被困人員的生命，因此，千萬不要乘普通的電梯逃生。
第九訣：緩降逃生，滑繩自救。高層、多層公共建築內一般都設何高空緩降器或救生繩，人員可以通過這些設施安全地離開危險的樓層。如果沒有這些專門設施，而安全通道又已被堵，救援人員不能及時趕到的情況下，你可以迅速利用身邊的繩索或床單、窗簾、衣服等自製簡易救生繩，並用水打濕從窗檯或陽台沿繩緩滑到下面樓層或地面;安全逃生。請記住：膽大心細救命繩就在身邊。
