Is it me or is there an increasing amount of teen and college students getting tattoos nowadays? Tattooing has become one of America's fastest growing categories of retail business. I've seen names, crosses, faces, as well as many other designs. Then, when students go get these ridiculous tattoos, they get them on the wrong places including their necks and their backs.

Students are growing more and more creative with decorating themselves which leads me to think that having a tattoo is a growing trend. There are now an estimated 15,000 tattoo studios in operation. Furthermore, it is estimated that at least one new studio opens daily.

A well known reason students are getting "tatted up" is because the people they look up to are doing it. Rappers and entertainers like Lil Wayne, The Game, Allen Iverson and many others all have tattoos both visible and invisible.

Thirty four percent of Americans with tattoos said having a tattoo has made them feel sexier. Interestingly, more tattooed females (42%) feel this way than males (25%), according to Picasso Exports.

Do tattoos make a person seem tougher? According to Picasso's, those with tattoos said that having a tattoo has made them feel more rebellious (29%), while others said a tattoo makes them feel more attractive (26%).

It's all about fitting in. When students see others getting attention, they immediately think that having a tattoo will make them the same way. Today's society has a lot of strange theories, but having a tattoo to be cool has got to be the most retarded.

People with common sense should just be happy and let their personality do the talking.

Although having a tattoo is a popular trend, I think that people should respect their body and think about it before making crucial decisions that will affect them their whole lives.
