這是發生在十幾年前的一個真實的故事。
一個村莊遭遇洪災，肆虐的洪水橫沖直撞，把無數農家沖毀，許多人在洪水中掙扎。人們在離岸20多米的一棵大樹和岸邊的樹之間拉了一根繩子，形成一道繩壩，攔截從上游沖下來的人和物。這時，只見上游一對母女相擁著被洪水沖下，母親50多歲，白發在渾黃的洪水中時隱時現，十分醒目。女兒20多歲，兩人在洪水中奮力掙扎著。岸邊的許多人見狀不停地舉手呼喊，叫洪水中的母女倆往繩壩這邊靠。她們聽到岸上的叫喊，掙扎著向繩壩靠近。但洪水湍急，母女倆努力了半天離繩壩卻還有一段距離，眼看就要擦過拴著繩壩的大樹。就在一剎那間，母親奮力把女兒往繩壩邊一推，女兒順勢抱住大樹，得救了。而在洪水中的母親卻被推時反沖的慣力沖到河心，在洪水中掙扎了幾下，消失在奔騰的河水中。被救上岸的女兒失聲痛哭，岸邊的居民也流下了感動的淚水。
這一幕前後僅維持了一兩分鍾時間，卻在人們的腦海中牢牢定格。面對生與死的選擇，母親毫不猶豫地把生的希望留給了女兒，把死的威脅留給了自己，這一瞬間折射出的不正是人世間最博大無私、最崇高的母愛嗎？
