（二）捉鬼
清朝乾隆年間，曹雪芹住在香山腳下一個風景秀麗的小村裡。
然而近一年來，這里卻一派荒蕪蕭索的景象。因為傳說這兒鬧鬼。每日清晨，那鬼駕著一朵雲飛向山頂；日落黃昏，又帶著一道亮火落到屋前。
人們談鬼色變，雞犬不寧。這件事情傳到曹雪芹的耳朵里。他不露聲色，獨自一人，於清晨黃昏，悄悄站在附近的一塊高地上瞭望。果然看見了那道似灰似藍的亮火，他一連看了三四日，額上的皺紋終於 開來，笑道：「我明白了！」
以後幾天，人們奇怪地發現曹雪芹整日徘徊於荒野之間，時而撥弄亂石，時而察看古墓，他的手和褲子都被劃破了，但仍毫無倦意。終於，他像發現了什麼 ，興沖沖地下山宣布要捉鬼。
人們聽說曹雪芹要捉鬼，真是又驚又喜，天還沒有黑，就都躲在附近，悄悄地看著。
不一會兒，曹雪芹來了，背著一條大口袋，鼓鼓的，取出來，竟是一口大鍋，膽子大的人圍上來問：「您一個人去行嗎？」
曹雪芹說：「不礙事，今天晚上，你們一見山上有火光，就是我把鬼捉住了，你們就上來看吧。」
好容易盼到天黑，那鬼火果然又出現了，箭一般地射下來。只聽曹雪芹一聲叫喊，接著「咣當」一聲響，山上亮起了火把，雪芹朗聲叫道：「我已經將此鬼捉住了！」
