The film briefly references Mayanism, the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, and the 2012 phenomenon in its portrayal of cataclysmic events unfolding in the year 2012. Because of solar flare bombardment the Earth's core begins heating up at an unprecedented rate, eventually causing crustal displacement. This results in an onslaught of Doomsday event scenarios plunging the world into chaos, ranging from California falling into the Pacific Ocean, the eruption of the Yellowstone National Park caldera, massive earthquakes, and Megatsunami impacts along every coast line on the Earth. The film centers around an ensemble cast of characters as they narrowly escape multiple catastrophes in an effort to reach ships in the Himalayas, along with scientists and governments of the world who are attempting to save as many lives as they can before the disasters ensue.
I think,it will be, for its audiences, one of the most satisfactory films of the year and it really can be called the "mother of all disaster movies".

Time has not been completely kind to the 1939 version of "Wuthering Heights". Intended as a great tearjerker, it now comes across almost as camp. The hammy performances and dramatic dialogue are very entertaining, however.
The Emily Bronte classic has been condensed to feature the romance between Cathy and Heathcliff. Petulant beauty Cathy (Merle Oberon) and her sadistic, self-destructive brother Hindley (Hugh Williams) inherit the Wuthering Heights estate from their benevolent father (Cecil Humphreys). Left out is brooding adopted son/gypsy/stableboy Heathcliff (Lawrence Olivier). Since society would frown on their relationship, Cathy mps Heathcliff for wealthy snob neighbor David Niven. Heathcliff vows revenge on all concerned, which he does upon making his fortune.
Oberon and Olivier had been teamed up before in the highly successful "Divorce of Lady X" from 1938, but Olivier, not yet a star in America, had wanted lover Vivien Leigh (they would wed in 1940) as Cathy. United Artists instead offered Leigh the secondary lead, which she declined. ("Gone with the Wind" gave her a better role anyway). Ironically, Oberon and Olivier supposedly detested each other. Hollywood legend has it that when Director William Wyler yelled "cut" after a particularly romantic scene, Oberon shouted at him "Tell him [Olivier] to stop spitting on me!"
"Wuthering Heights" had excellent proction values. The sets, especially the rocky crags, are elaborate, as are Oberon's costumes. The film was rewarded with box office success and a slew of Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Olivier), Best Original (?) Screenplay (Ben Hecht), Best Art Direction (James Basevi), Best Cinematography (Gregg Toland), Best Score (Alfred Newman), Best Supporting Actress (Geraldine Fitzgerald). Given strong competition from films such as "Gone with the Wind", "Wuthering Heights" did not win any awards.

The Princess Diaries(公主日記)
The Princess Diaries is a modern day fairy tale about Mia who lives in San Francisco with her divorced mother. One day, her estranged grandmother comes to visit with a proposal for her: She would like Mia to be her successor and become Princess of Genovia. Hilarity ensues because Mia is pretty much a regular teen who is clumsy, awkward and in desperate need of a professional makeover, so she spends the next several weeks in etiquette lessons, getting "re-done" and trying to decide if being a princess is what she really wants in life.
The film was cute, at times extremely corny, but watcheable. It featured surprisingly decent acting by Hathaway, who made up for the horrible Mandy Moore. I especially enjoyed Hector Elizondo, a good character actor who was kind of hilarious doing his best Shaft impersonation as the Queen's head of security. Heather Matarazzo who was also featured as Mia's best friend, continues in her "quirky girl" tradition, but still can't live up to her role in Welcome to the Dollhouse.
This is one of the few "kid's movies" that I wouldn't hesitate to watch with a kid, because it's tolerable. It's also so predictable that if you snooze in the middle of it you won't miss anything when you wake up.

Carmen Lowell is working on the backstage of a play in Yale. When the lead actress and friend Julia invites her to travel to Vermont with her to work in a play with professional cast, she decides to stay with her friends and her pregnant mother. However she finds that Lena Kaligaris will travel to a course of drawing. Bridget Vreeland is in existential crisis missing her mother and decides to travel to an archaeological dig in Turkey. Tibby Tomko-Rollins is working in a rental and still editing her documentary. Therefore, Carmen accepts the invitation and travels to Vermont. She has a crush on the lead actor Ian, who convinces her to participate in an audition, and is invited by the director Bill Kerr to perform the lead female role. Later she finds the truth about the friendship of Julia. The broken-hearted Lena finds that Kostas has just married and she dates the model of her class. Bridget finds letters addressed to her from her grandmother that her father has hidden and she decides to visit her grandma, disclosing a secret about her mother. Tibby makes love with her boy-friend Brian McBrian but they have problems with the condom and she gets scared of a possible pregnancy. In the end, the girlfriends discover that their friendship is real and more than a pair of jeans.

After he was put into the jail. He didn't panic like other new prioners. Instead, he is very calm. Why? Because he is plannying a prison break! What becomes of a movie star when the career hits a hiccup and the lustre starts to fade? If the movie star is smart, they go back to basics, reconnecting with the fire of their formative years. What drove them back then? What first made them strive for greatness? "When I was a kid I always wanted to kill Hitler," Tom Cruise revealed recently. "I hated that guy and all he stood for."
Valkyrie, then, is not just the latest Tom Cruise action thriller. It is the fruition of a dream; a boyhood fantasy writ large; a Hollywood blockbuster that provides an opportunity that was denied him in life. Inevitably he bungles it.
Bryan Singer's picture casts Cruise as Claus von Stauffenberg, the Wehrmacht colonel who spearheaded the 20 July 1944 plot to save the fatherland. Wounded in battle and sporting a natty eye-patch, von Stauffenberg has grown sick of war. He wants to "show the world that not all Germans are like Hitler". He hates that guy and all he stands for.
The obvious sticking point here is that (spoiler!) von Stauffenberg did not actually kill Hitler. The plot failed and the conspirators were executed. Played as a tragedy, or a stark study of failed ambitions, this might not have been a problem. Except that Singer opts to frame Valkyrie as a high-concept wartime suspense thriller, inviting us to suspend our disbelief and go along for the ride.
The 1944 plot was at least fiendishly planned and generally well executed. Singer's, by contrast, seems flawed and foolhardy from the start.
But what of Singer's co-conspirator? Valkyrie paints von Stauffenberg as the archetypal "good German", a model of elegant disenchantment. And yet Cruise, for all his skills as a performer, does not do disenchantment. For all the anguished moments of doubt, the constant stares into the mirror, his von Stauffenberg is essentially Top Gun with an eye-patch.
The film's curious melange of dialects only underscores this quality. Von Stauffenberg's cohorts are played by British actors (Bill Nighy, Terence Stamp, Kenneth Branagh) who deliver their lines in English accents. The villainous Nazi is portrayed by German actor Thomas Kretschmann who speaks English in a German accent. And then - standing separate and apart - is Cruise himself, intoning his lines in pureblood American. He might as well have been dropped in from an Allied plane; a gung-ho Hollywood hero sent in to clean up a very European mess. He couldn't manage it as a kid, and he can't quite do it now. Hitler one; Tom Cruise nil.

這段時間各種媒體對《天下無賊》的報道鋪天蓋地，自己也沒能抵抗住馮小剛這塊金字招牌的誘惑，11號晚上乖乖地在新東安給這部商業大片貢獻了100兩銀子。影片一開始的付彪學英語就來了個頭彩，不知道是否因為葯物治療而發胖的彪哥把這個既怕老婆又色心不死的大款演的惟妙惟肖，而劉德華教訓小區保安的段子也是典型的馮氏幽默。不過很快地，影片的調子就向著正劇的方向跑去，除了葛優葛大爺依然維持了冷麵笑匠的本色時不時冒出一兩句的經典台詞來讓人捧腹。恩，口吃的范偉與娘娘腔的馮遠征打劫的這一段也讓人難忘，看著那麼胖的范偉手裡拿著一把小斧頭的樣子，以及馮遠征那句「笑什麼笑，這兒打劫呢，嚴肅點兒！」，實在是太好玩了。
劉德華這次的表現我要拍手叫好，從開始的狂妄，到與賊團伙交手的穩健，再到為情而捨身取義，他的表演過渡得很自然，比起《十面埋伏》里的蒼白與一味耍酷，要有血有肉得多。當然，這也跟劇本與導演的駕馭能力有關，在對港台商業演員的使用上，馮小剛比張藝謀明顯要高出一籌。
整部影片中的軟廣告無處不在見縫就入。一開始的Canon攝像機和BMW轎車自不必說，搞笑的是扮成旅行團的一夥盜賊，每人手上還舉著一個小旗子，旗上三個大字：「淘寶網」，這倒跟他們「淘寶」的身份挺符合的，哈哈。還有劉德華與劉若英遞過來遞過去的一張銀聯卡，警察的HP筆記本和Canon便攜列印機，而影片中出現得最多的，就是Nokia手機了。在寺廟里從香客處偷來的手機，居然全是Nokia的，每偷一個還給個手機的特寫，劉德華與劉若英對發手機簡訊，也全是大幅的手機特寫鏡頭，最搞笑的是影片最後，劉德華手中的Nokia是如此的光芒四射，整個屏幕的焦點完全在這手機上了，而警察同志拿起手機來幫劉德華發出最後的簡訊時，「中國移動」的標志又象刀一樣的刻在了觀眾的視線里。
雖然這么多的軟廣告讓人覺得有點好笑，但這部影片整體上還是相當精緻的，馮小剛這次是完完全全地打造著一部商業大片，故事的情節、場面和音樂都繼續向好來塢靠攏，這是件好事，沒有那麼多的思想，沒有那麼多的說教，讓觀眾舒舒服服地在電影院中度過兩個小時的童話時光，這就夠了。
