英语阅读尚可，写作差主要有以下两个原因。
原因一：练习少。 练习少导致两个严重后果：对写英语作文没啥感觉，写作时可用的词汇极其有限。因而难以写出好的英语作文。
原因二：练习不得法。 一般有两种情况：一是只写不改，二是没范文或范文运用不当。好文章是改出来的，无论对中文还是英文写作都是这样。对于范文，有些学习者读、背诵甚至默写，这些都不得要领。
那么，应如何提高写作呢？
首先，多练。 必须有一定量的积累，才可能有写作质的提高。同时，只有多写，才能明确哪些自己不会表达或不确信如何表达，因而才知道哪些词汇、表达是自己需要积累的。在输入（听、读）时碰到这些单词、词组或小句，才会有感觉，才会有收集它们的冲动，既提高英语输入的收效，又使自己的写作词汇库不断扩大。
其次，正确练习。 一篇作文的大致练习步骤如下：
第一步：选择合适的题目。 练习之初，建议选自己感兴趣、有话可说的题目。有一定基础后，根据需要选择题目。
第二步：写初稿。 头脑风暴，构思写作框架，然后动笔写，想到什么写什么，只写不改。
第三步：有间隔地修改，至少三遍。
第一遍，整篇文章层面修改，大刀阔斧，理清总架构、逻辑思路。
第二遍，分部分修改，理清每个部分的架构、逻辑。
第三遍，语言层面修改，根据要传达信息的需要在句子、词组、单词层面调整。
第三步：研究主题相同或相近的范文。 层次和上述三遍修改相同，首先，从篇章层面整理其总框架、逻辑思路。其次，分部分进行，研究总框架里每个分支的脉络、逻辑。最后，在语言层面研究其句子衔接、用词。
第四步：比较自己的作文和范文并修改。 从上述三个层面比较，看看自己的作文有哪些可以改善，并据此修改。
第五步：重复第四步 ，直到对自己的作文满意或暂时找不出需修改之处为止。
第六步：找人评自己的作文。 可以找英语水平和自己差不多或比自己高的人帮忙评价。如找不到，可以放一段时间（比如一个月）后再来修改。
坚持按上述步骤练习 ，一篇作文的修改告一段落后开始下一篇的练习。这样，不仅可以看到同一篇作文每一次修改的进步，而且可以看到后一篇作文比前一篇作文的进步。英语写作水平也就随之一步一个脚印地提高了。
