可怕的数据表明：水资源短缺成了当今世界面临的重大危机。因此，保护和更有效合理利用水资源，是世界各国政府面临的一项紧迫任务。那么，怎样才能保护和更有效地合理利用水资源呢？从环境角度来说，最完善的措施是拦水和调水。改变水资源的时空分布。但这只是一个方面，而对于人类来说，更重要的是注重节约用水，提高水资源利用率：在工业方面提倡节水产业，控制污染物的排放，加强废水处理；在农业方面应采用先进的灌溉方式（喷灌、滴灌）等。水是生命的基础，它不仅关系到人类生活的质量，还影响到人类的生存能力。所以增强水的危机意识，珍惜水，节约水，保护水资源，才是当务之急。
为此，我们国家制定了相应的节水措施，
我国国家建设部决定每年6月份的第二周作为全国城市节约用水宣传周，目的是认真贯彻《中华人民共和国水法》和国务院关于《城市节约用水管理规定》，从而增强人们计划用水，节约用水的观念。
如何节水呢？有以下几种方法：
1、节水为荣——随时关紧水龙头
2、一水多用——充分利用每一滴水
3、阻止滴漏——检查维修水龙头
4、监护水源——保护水源就是保护生命
5、少用洗涤剂——减少水污染
6、植树造林——涵养水源
