句型結構
在句、段、篇三者中，句型結構是學生平時接觸最多的，幾乎中學教學的每一堂課，每一項練習都或多或少接觸到句型的運用和理解，但是在英語寫作過程中，學生往往只考慮意思，對語言本身卻顧不過來，小錯誤比比皆是。因此在寫作教學中，首先應當加強英語句型運用的練習。可以採用連詞成句和簡單句合並復合句的訓練，來強化學生運用各類句型的能力。
段落結構
短文寫作中，段落可以分成兩種類型，一種是描述性的，另一種則是議論性的。描述性段落是根據題目所給出的內容，包括圖畫、圖表等，發揮自己的想像力，對某一現象或事件進行一定的描寫。寫好這種段落的前提是要對所提供的材料進行仔細觀察，抓住其中的重點和必要的細節，將這些內容用適當的語法和句型表達出來。在表達過程中，應當注意事件發生的時間先後或者某一現象的發展趨勢。議論性的段落幾乎在每篇作文中都要碰到，即使在圖畫形式的短文寫作中，在描述事件後也需要發表一定的議論。要寫好議論性的英文段落，首先要確立段落中心思想，然後通過各種手段，如描述、例證、比較等，擺出具體的理由，展開這一主題。最常見的段落結構是一個中心句和數個支撐句，這種結構在英語閱讀理解的練習中也往往可以見到。中心句通常出現在段首，有時也可放在段落末尾或中間，但對於英語寫作能力尚不完善的高中學生來說，將中心句放在段落開始的方法比較容易把握。有了中心句，再加上幾個支撐句就構成了一個段落，寫支撐句時，要注意在句與句之間運用恰當的轉折詞，使文章顯得更加連貫流暢。
語篇結構
語篇的結構就是一篇文章的框架，合理構思和合理安排每一段落，既要使每一段落都服務於文章的中心，維護文章的整體性，又要使每一段落分別闡述一個問題，保持相對的獨立性。在每次短文寫作之前，第一步就應當確定整個篇章的結構。高考(Q吧)的作文一般需要考生先將某一事件或現象表達清楚，然後對此發表自己的觀點和看法，近來又出現了純粹要求考生表達觀點的文章，如2001年全國高考中要求考生談論轎車進入家庭的影響。對於前一類文章，可將其分為兩個部分，其一是描述性部分，主要對所提供的內容加以敘述，其二是議論部分，對前一部分的內容發表自己的觀點；對於後一類文章可以把整篇文章分成三個部分，即開端，主體和結尾。一開頭立刻提出自己的觀點，並簡單扼要地列出支持觀點的兩到三個理由。這樣，在主體部分里，每一段落就是每個理由的進一步闡述。最後在結尾部分中，再總結一下整篇文章的觀點，同文章開頭呼應。但應當注意的是，結尾部分不應當是機械的重復，不僅在用詞和句型上有所變化，而且在觀點上也應略有擴充，還可以提一下相反觀點的事情。這樣不僅結構完整，而且內容也更為充實。
