（2）文章結尾要留有空白。如《高大的皂莢樹》，是這樣結尾的：「皂莢樹啊，你給了我們多少快樂，多少期望。
想著想著，我的心裡，好像是一顆種子在生根、發芽……」究竟是一顆怎樣的種子呢？文章沒有說。當讀者從皂莢樹「雨天，自己淋著，給大家擋雨；夏天，自己曬著，給大家遮蔭；冬天，燃燒自己，給大家溫暖」中思索出問題的答案——在作者心裡生根、發芽的是一顆共產主義思想的種子：人活著，就要像皂莢樹那樣，千方百計使他人生活得更好。
這不是比直接說出更耐人尋味嗎？ （3）結尾還可以寫出意外。《小英雄雨來》描寫了蘆花村的人們聽到河沿上槍響後，以為雨來被鬼子殺害了。
