1、孔子生平

「Confucius」這個詞最初並不是英文，而是拉丁文。作為當時天主教聖職人員的利瑪竇等耶穌會傳教士，在翻譯中國經典和中國人名、地名並向他們的歐洲同胞進行介紹的時候，使用的自然也就是「教會拉丁語」，孔子的翻譯就來自於這種語言，並被沿用至今。

16 世紀，來自歐洲的天主教耶穌會傳教士，帶著向這個東方大國傳播天主教的使命，踏上明代中國的土地上時。古羅馬時代使用的古典拉丁語在中世紀天主教會那裡演變成了「教會拉丁語」，並一直使用到今天。
