像學習其它科目一樣,我有一個學習目標,包括短期、中期和長期目標。那麼短期目標就應該是「應試」，也就是應對考試題目。
我上初中的時候，英語成績始終不理想，那時候100分滿分，我通常是六七十分。母親在我初中的最後一年幫我請到了當地比較有名氣的一位老師幫我補習。我很不耐煩，因為實在看不出那位老師有什麼過人之處，每次只是出一些試題讓我做，然後再講解，讓我把生詞和做錯的題目記住，我就把錯的題目都抄寫在筆記本上了。日子一天一天過去，在期末考試前的一次英語測試，我的成績是93分，我以為是題目簡單,別人應該分數更高,結果我的成績是最好的。我很興奮，從那一次開始，我的英語成績始終是全班第一。
後來我總結了一下，那位給我補課老師真的不見得比我的任課老師水平高，他只是讓我比其他同學多做了很多試題，使我的詞彙量和閱讀量增加了，語感提高了,成績自然提高。所謂語感，舉個例子說，一句話去掉幾個詞讓你填空，你不需要看選項就能填上，而且每次都能填正確，但是不一定知道為什麼這樣填，就象我們還沒上學的時候就會說話一樣,這需要通過大量的閱讀才能達到。提醒一下，不需要去看英文報紙，雜志之類的，那會讓人失去信心，做題本身就是閱讀。
此後上了高中，大學，雖然沒有老師補習了，我始終保持著這個學習方法。但是，盲目的多做題也是不行的，要保證把做錯的地方弄明白，下次不錯，把沒見過的生詞背下來，下次認得。
關於聽力，我沒有什麼經驗，但是有一點是肯定的，沒有語言基礎想提高聽力和口語水平都是很困難的。另外我想說的是，在自己水平還不是很高的時候千萬別去聽什麼CCTV-9之類的，那隻會讓自己失去信心。我現在學了十幾年英語，還是聽不懂CCTV-9。
關於口語，我也正在學習。去年六月份，我跳到一家瑞士公司，起初見了老外一句英語也說不出，急的滿頭大汗.後來同事告訴我不用在乎發音、語法、時態等等，先說出來，老外聽不懂再說。我就是這樣硬著頭皮跟老外交流，經過半年鍛煉，現在除了工作交流以外,還可以跟老外閑聊和開開玩笑了。
