作者介紹：

托馬斯·哈代（Thomas Hardy,1840-1928）生於英格蘭多爾切斯特的一個小村子裡。父親是位建築師。早年，托馬斯·哈代從事建築事務，但是他最愛寫詩，他由於寫詩難得有出版機會，隨轉向寫小說，後以寫小說而成名。1896年，他發表了他的最後一部小說《無名的裘德》（Jude the Obscure），以後即轉向寫詩，整個晚年他都用來寫詩。
