新浪觀察：撇開諸如「英語帝國主義正在屠宰漢語？」這樣的話題不談，您認為對於個人而言，學英語到底有什麼用？或者說，英語對個人的發展究竟有什麼樣的影響？它能為中國人創造多大的個人發展空間？
劉克亞：這個問題聽起來很簡單，但實際上它是我們這一代英語學習者遇到的最大的問題，也就是做一件事卻不知道為什麼要去做的問題。大多數人認為，除了應付中學、大學、研究生、升職、出國等各種各樣的考試之外，學習英語似乎對於個人的生活品質和職業發展沒有任何作用。但是這樣的認識忽略了一個重要的事實，那就是全球的經濟在越來越一體化，中國的經濟越來越開放化，在這樣的市場環境下，商品將越來越國際化，只有這樣的商品才能找到更多的消費者、發現更大的國際市場。我們現在已經看到無論是電視機、計算機還是培訓服務、電影、電視節目都在緊跟國際標准和趨勢，試圖在國際市場上找到更大的機遇。以此類推，作為一種特殊的商品——人，也一定要向著國際化的方向發展，而國際化的一個重要特徵就是擁有能夠用英語來實現人的價值的能力，換句話說，也就是一個人的價值不能僅僅局限於一種語言和文化，必須「放之四海而皆靈」。實際上，這種特徵已經很明顯了。現在國際上比較流行的歌唱組合，不管他們是來自台灣、日本還是韓國，除了唱母語歌曲之外還要能夠唱幾首英文歌曲，有的甚至將英文歌詞夾在母語歌詞中或乾脆將自己的壓軸歌曲拿英文命名，更極端的連自己歌唱組合的名字也換成了純英文的，如F4，HOT等。很難想像，如果這些流行的歌唱組合堅持純正母語，拒絕英文的「腐蝕」，他們還依然如此受到大范圍的青睞。
如果大家覺得歌唱生涯不太現實，那麼任職於一家公司或者非盈利機構總是大多數人的生活方式吧。從凱洛格商學院畢業後，我曾任職於一家財富50強企業，負責以北美市場為主的全球營銷業務。在這樣的位置上，我有機會周遊世界，接觸來自世界各地不同母語不同文化背景的精英，他們操一口流利、自信的美國口音，任職於形形色色的跨國企業和非盈利機構，可以在世界范圍內自由地選擇工作的方式、自由地選擇居住的方式、自由地選擇生活的方式，我稱這樣的一群人為「國際自由族」，我認為他們是國際化人才中的主流群體。中國經濟要走向世界，中國企業要國際化，中國人必須要加入國際化人才的主流群體，也就是說中國人必須要加入「國際自由族」，享受「國際自由族」的生活方式，我認為這應該是國際化的中國人追求個人成功的目標。很顯然，英語能力的高低將決定哪些中國人能夠率先達到甚至能否達到這一目標。從這個角度講，英語能力將決定個人命運！
新浪觀察：您提到「國際自由族」，這個詞聽起來很新鮮，也很有創意。從你上面的描述中我大致能理解它的含義，但不知道你具體如何定義這群人，比較好奇。您能否加以解釋？它和英語學習的關系又在哪裡呢？
劉克亞：「國際自由族」，也稱IF一族，這個詞是我自己創造出來的。我用來指我在工作中耳聞、目睹和接觸到的那些滿世界走動的人。我的一些文化圈和商業圈的朋友們覺得這個詞還算形象，我也就越來越多地使用它作為一種個人成功的模式。
簡單地說，「國際自由族」，就是那些在全球范圍內能夠有能力、有視野來自由地選擇工作地、選擇居住地、選擇娛樂休閑地的這么一群人，他們的國籍對他們的這種生活模式不構成什麼影響，一個「國際自由族」可以一年到頭很少呆在自己的國家，但不妨礙他們熱愛自己的祖國。
說到「國際自由族」和英語學習之間的關系。前面說過了，中國人學英語最大的問題就在於搞不定「我為什麼學英語？」這個問題，尤其是不再需要參加英語考試之後。這種目的的模糊不可避免地帶來信心和毅力的不足，對學習效果的損害顯而易見。事實上，我認為英語學習的目的必須和個人發展聯系在一起才能為學習者提供足夠的信心和毅力，從而加速英語的突破。像「國際自由族」這樣的生活模式，就是未來中國成功人士的一種令人振奮的選擇，而這種選擇是以優秀的英語能力為前提的。這里我所說的優秀的英語能力，不再是簡單的「聽說讀寫」的能力，這個層次，只能在聾啞英語和應試英語的體系裡混一混，對於「國際自由族」的生活視野來說遠遠不夠。一個「國際自由族」必須擁有一流的英語口才，因為他面對的是來自世界各地的、各種文化背景下的人，所以他必須能夠用英語進行准確無誤的溝通、必須能夠激勵部下和同事、必須能夠說服老闆和客戶、必須能夠進行高層次的社交、必須能夠進行各種規模的公眾演講，這才是優秀的英語能力的目標。這樣，我們的英語學習就找到了和個人發展的結合點，就有了一個可以看得見摸得著的目標。這種清晰而催人奮進的目標是我們永不枯歇的動力，對提高英語學習的效率而言舉足輕重。
新浪觀察：正如你所說，中國人學習英語的目的就是為了考試，這不是很好的狀況，那麼從實用的價值來說，教學方法應該是什麼樣的呢？
劉克亞：我們傳統的英語教學法的弊病我就不再多說了，很多人對此都有自己的看法，說得已經很多了。不過正是對這個問題的反思和對我自己學習英語成功經驗的提煉，我得出了自己的答案，創立了表演英語的方法。
為什麼叫「表演英語」呢？這是因為，我當時在紐約，一個偶然的機會參加了一個百老匯劇院開辦的表演訓練班，我的英語就是在這些表演訓練中神奇般地獲得了突破。當然這些訓練本身是為了培養優秀演員的，但我卻無心插柳，得到了對我來說意義更大的收獲。
表演英語從這種高強度的訓練中獲得了很多的啟發，它的具體技術和理念很多了，在這里也沒有辦法很具體地講。簡單地講就是，我們學英語必須要動用視覺、聽覺、觸覺、嗅覺和味覺，也就是說要動用全身所有部位和功能，這樣才能學得快、學得牢、學得靈活。成功地將所有這些因素結合起來，英語學習就像是激情的表演一樣，生動、有趣、高效。
新浪觀察：那表演英語具體是怎樣做的呢？
劉克亞：這個我沒法說得太多，簡單幾句話，泛泛地說一下好了。表演英語就是以美國口音為切入點、以表演化的演講為手段、以美語口才為目標的英語學習方法，它力求將個人發展和英語學習相結合，通過一系列獨創的技術和方法，化自卑為自信、變動搖為堅定，讓學習者在較短的時間內實現聽說讀寫的全面突破。
新浪觀察：以表演化的演講為手段這個好理解，名字就是表演英語嘛，其他的方面也能夠大概想到它的內容，關鍵是為什麼要以美國口音為切入點呢？
劉克亞：以表演化的演講為手段恐怕也不像想像的那麼簡單，這是一套以心理學和個人發展理論為基礎的非常有意思的方法。
以美國口音為切入點，這是基於口音是口語的基礎、口音是口才的衡量標准、純正的美國口音將給學習者帶來自信等方面的原因。從美國口音入手要比從單詞或語法入手容易得多，也有效得多。
當然，還有更重要的一點，我們上面談到的「國際自由族」，他們周遊世界的password就是美國口音。我們為了個人發展學習英語，而美國口音對於個人發展如此重要，我們大可把一些文化本位主義的思路先放在一邊，認識到這是一個「終南捷徑」，是一個有實用價值的工具，換句話說，你操著純正的美國口音並不代表你事事都認同美國文化和他們的國家政策，你完全可以用這個工具使自己成為中國文化的使者。

The history of acrobatics in China can be traced back to Neolithic times. It is believed that acrobatics grew out of the labor and self-defense skills that the people practiced and demonstrated ring their leisure time.
By 300 BC, such skills as walking on 3-meter high stilts and juggling 7 daggers at a time had been developed in China.
As the world economy developed, acrobatics was also developed into a kind of performance art. Acrobatics became known worldwide through performances presented along the Silk Road.
During the 13th century, the reputation of acrobatics as an impressive art form began to suffer. The public didn't respect acrobatics as they had before, and many acrobats found it very difficult to find places to perform.
After the sounding of the drum, the acrobatic show would begin. Several benches and a few props was all an acrobat owned. These early acrobatics didn't care so much about giving a beautiful performance, so long as the conveyed a feeling of danger and peril.
The life of those fallen acrobats was tough. A lot of acrobatic performers were forced to do farming in countryside. Because of their love for acrobatics, acrobatic art was able to survive for generations.
Located in Northeastern Plain, Wuqiao County relies on agriculture. Wandering through small villages here, you can see a lot of people practicing acrobatics. Although, they're not as professional as I expected.
Currently, Mr. Jiang is teaching acrobatics to his children. There are over 400 families who are capable performing acrobatics. They sometimes perform in the other cities together.
The 'Acrobatic Macrocosm' was built for local acrobatic performances by the Wuqiao Municipal government. There are many other forms of folk art performed here.
Because renting a stage in a big theatre in urban areas is often very expensive, local acrobatic troupes build temporary stages for their performances. These temporary stages not only can save money, but also can be moved and reused.
In the early 1980s, the American Ecation Commission introced acrobatics into the students' curriculum. China established two art schools especially for acrobatics-Wuqiao Acrobatic School and the Beijing Acrobatic School.

He has his own unique methods of coaching his students.
