開場白多種多樣，歸納起來主要有這樣幾類：
一、自我介紹式
發言人落座後，首先做一個自我介紹，把自己的基本情況，或者是自己單位的基本情況告訴聽眾，然後，宣讀講稿，或者邊宣讀講稿邊解釋發言內容，或者脫稿發言。這樣的開場白叫做自我介紹式開場白。譬如，在全國NIT應用技術交流會上，有一位代表發言的開場白是：「同志們好!我是河南省南陽幼兒師范的老師，也是我們學校NIT推廣項目的負責人。現在，我向諸位同仁匯報一下我們學校在NIT方面的做法，……。」再譬如說，在河南省課件製作交流會上，某代表的開場白是：「各位老師，你們好!我叫張軍，來自河南省的南疆邊陲新野縣，是一所鄉村小學普通老師，……。」
聽眾有一個共同的心理，就是想知道自己在聽誰發言。知道了發言人的基本情況，心裡會塌實許多，可以專心致志地聽會。不知道發言人的基本情況，在聽的過程中，心裡老是不塌實，好象缺了點什麼似的，時不時會自言自語地在心裡問「這是誰?」有的人還會停止聽講，向周圍的人打探發言人的基本情況，分散注意力，降低聽會的效果。
自我介紹是有條件的，不是所有發言都可以套用。譬如，一所普通中學開語文教研會，發言人就沒有必要做自我介紹。普通中學的語文教師不會太多，少則幾人，多則十幾人，大家朝夕相處，彼此了解，沒有必要把自己的基本情況再重復一遍。一般說來，在參加會議的人比較多，涉及的單位比較多，發言人不為人知的情況下，才使用自我介紹式開場白。

二、謙虛式
在正式發言前，結合發言的內容說一通謙虛、客套話，這樣的開場白，我們叫它謙虛式開場白。例如，在某縣「八榮八恥」教育經驗交流會上，有一所學校的代表這樣說：「上一周，縣教育局的劉局長到我們學校視察工作，看了我們學校『榮辱』教育的部分工作，就安排我們寫一個『榮辱』教育的經驗材料，准備在這次會議上發言，依此來推動我縣的榮辱教育。我們只是按照縣教育局的安排做了一點工作，很不到位，還有一些漏洞，和某些兄弟學校相比較，可能還不如他們，確實沒有什麼可炫耀的。為了推動我們縣的榮辱教育，和大家互相學習，那我就拋磚引玉啦!」
