To Pull up the Seedlings to Help Them Grow
Once upon a time, an old farmer planted a plot of rice. Everyday he
went to the field to watch the seedlings grow. He saw the young shoots
break through the soil and grow taller each day. But still, he thought
they were growing too slowly. He got impatient with the young plants.
"How could the plants grow faster?" He tossed in bed ring the night and
could not sleep. Suddenly he hit upon an idea. He had an idea not wait
for daybreak. He jumped out of the bed and dashed to the field. By the
moonlight, he began working on the rice seedlings. One by one, he pulled
up the young plants by half an inch. When he finished pulling, it was
already morning. Straightening his back, he said to himself, "What a
wonderful idea! Look, how much taller the plants have grown one night!"
With great satisfaction, he went back home. He told his son what he had
done in a triumphant tone. His son was shocked. Now the sun had risen.
The young man was heart-broken to see all the pulled-up young plants
dying.
People now use " Ba Miao Zhu Zhang" to describe the behavior of those
who are too eager to get something done only to make it worse. The idiom
is a bit like the English proverb "Haste makes waste" ------to spoil
things by excessive enthusiasm.
撥苗助長
從前，有個農夫，種了稻苗後，便希望能早早收成。每天他到稻田時，發覺那些稻
苗長得非常慢。
他等得不耐煩，心想：「怎麼樣才能使稻苗長得高，長很快呢?
想了又想，他終了想到一個「最佳方法」，就是將稻苗撥高幾分。
經過一番辛勞後，他滿意地扛鋤頭回家休息。心想：明天稻苗長得一定更高了。
隔天早晨．一早起身，他迫不及待地起去稻田看他的「成果」。
哪知，他跑到稻田時，卻看到所有的稻苗都枯萎了。
The Old Cat
An old woman had a cat. The cat was very old; she could not run quickly, and she could not bite, because she was so old. One day the old cat saw a mouse; she jumped and caught the mouse. But she could not bite it; so the mouse got out of her mouth and ran away, because the cat could not bite it.
Then the old woman became very angry because the cat had not killed the mouse. She began to hit the cat. The cat said, "Do not hit your old servant. I have worked for you for many years, and I would work for you still, but I am too old. Do not be unkind to the old, but remember what good work the old did when they were young."
【譯文】
老貓
一位老婦有隻貓，這只貓很老，它跑不快了，也咬不了東西，因為它年紀太大了。一天，老貓發現一隻老鼠，它跳過去抓這只老鼠，然而，它咬不住這只老鼠。因此，老鼠從它的嘴邊溜掉了，因為老貓咬不了它。
於是，老婦很生氣，因為老貓沒有把老鼠咬死。她開始打這只貓，貓說：「不要打你的老僕人，我已經為你服務了很多年，而且還願意為你效勞，但是，我實在太老了，對年紀大的不要這么無情，要記住老年人在年青時所做過的有益的事情。」
A man was going to the house of some rich person. As he went along the road, he saw a box of good apples at the side of the road. He said, "I do not want to eat those apples; for the rich man will give me much food; he will give me very nice food to eat." Then he took the apples and threw them away into the st.
He went on and came to a river. The river had become very big; so he could not go over it. He waited for some time; then he said, "I cannot go to the rich man's house today, for I cannot get over the river."
He began to go home. He had eaten no food that day. He began to want food. He came to the apples, and he was glad to take them out of the st and eat them.
Do not throw good things away; you may be glad to have them at some other time.
【譯文】
一個人正朝著一個富人的房子走去，當他沿著路走時，在路的一邊他發現一箱好蘋果，他說：「我不打算吃那些蘋果，因為富人會給我更多的食物，他會給我很好吃的東西。」然後他拿起蘋果，一把扔到土裡去。
他繼續走，來到河邊，河漲水了，因此，他到不了河對岸，他等了一會兒，然後他說：「今天我去不了富人家了，因為我不能渡過河。」
他開始回家，那天他沒有吃東西。他就開始去找吃的，他找到蘋果，很高興地把它們從塵土中翻出來吃了。
不要把好東西扔掉，換個時候你會覺得它們大有用處。

暑假的一天，表哥來到我家，他把我拖到一邊，神秘地說：「咱們去溜冰怎樣」？「真的？太好了！」我興奮地答應著，心裡又擔心自己摔個四腳朝天鬧笑話。
來到溜冰場，買了票，換上溜冰鞋。哥哥給我講溜冰的要領：「身體稍微向前傾斜，腿往下彎一點……」哥哥邊說邊作示範，可我怎麼也不敢挪動半步。於是哥哥又牽著我的手，慢慢向後退，而我緊緊抓著哥哥的手，嘴裡還嘀咕著：「你可不能放手啊！」哥哥見狀生氣地說：「總是依賴我是學不會的。」我趕忙說： 「不行，不要嘛。」哥哥還是放手了。我後退了幾步，又抓緊了扶桿不肯放，一邊像老奶奶走路一樣挪動著步伐。哥哥見了，瞪了我一眼說：「這么膽小，怎麼能學會呢？」我臉紅了，心想：我可不是什麼笨小孩，一定要勇敢點才行。想到這兒，我又一次鼓足勇氣，學著哥哥的樣滑了起來。誰知沒滑幾步「啪」一下摔了個正著，我揉了揉生疼的屁股，一骨碌爬起來，繼續滑了起來。哥哥在一旁為我鼓掌加油。漸漸地，漸漸地，我好象找到了感覺，越溜越大膽，越溜越順，樂得哥哥直誇我：「妹妹，你真棒！比我學得還快。」
現在，我溜冰的姿態可美了，不信，就來看看吧。
想起我剛才所做的事，忍不住就得哈哈大笑。
剛放學的時候，我小跑趕回家，因為今天可以看十分鍾的電視。雖然只是十分鍾，但是我也要好好珍惜。
跑到家門口的時候，我嚮往長一樣，把手伸進脖子里拿鑰匙。可是，怎麼也找不到。我心想：一定是在書包里，我又把手伸進書包里，翻來覆去的找，可還是沒有找到。我急壞了，鑰匙丟了媽媽會生氣的。不，決不對能讓媽媽生氣。
哦，我忘了，剛才在校門口的時候，我還跟孫韻玩兒了一會兒呢，鑰匙一定掉在那裡了。我又跑回學校，在我們玩兒的地方找了半天，可還是沒找著。我急的像熱鍋上的螞蟻後背上全是汗，癢癢急了，我一撓，摸到了一個硬邦邦的東西原來是鑰匙，我剛要發怒的臉上露出了笑容。
回到家，我把這件事告訴了媽媽，媽媽笑的前仰後合。小朋友，你要是親身經驗這件事之後，會不會也哈哈大笑呢？
今天，我和媽媽以及姑姑她們去了佛山。
來到佛山，首先，我們來到了祖廟路。只見祖廟路的街道上車水馬龍，行人車輛川流不息既熱鬧又擁擠。但是，這里雖然繁華，可空氣太差了。汽車排出的廢氣，路邊的服裝店為了引人注目而裝修的木方磚的油漆味兒，難聞極了，真令人身心煩躁。
接著我們來到舊街燎原路。這一條街道上古木參天，樹木蔥蘢，行人稀少，空氣清新，真令人神清氣爽。一陣微風吹來，路旁青翠欲滴的樹木的葉子微微擺動。人一看，便覺得心曠神怡。路旁的一家家物廉價美的服裝店、精品店，裝修得樸素自然，一點也不顯得過分，擺設別致且玲瓏悅目。
僅僅兩條路，也有如此大的區別！一條路深受商業氣味與廢氣的污染，而另一條路卻空氣清新，純朴自然。這不都是我們人類一手所為嗎？親愛的人們，在地球母親尚未完全絕望之時，醒悟吧!從現在開始，珍惜你身邊的每一滴水珠，珍惜你身邊的每一片綠色，珍惜你身邊的每一把土壤，珍惜你身邊的每一個美好的環境，珍惜你身邊的每一陣清香，珍惜你身邊的每一聲歡樂的鳥啼，珍惜你身邊的每一條自由自在的魚兒。總而言之，珍惜大自然賦予人類的所有美好的一切！從今天開始，為了我們能擁有這鳥語花香的環境，為了我們的子孫萬代還能擁有。學會珍惜每一片美麗的賞心悅目的綠色吧！
練字
自從讀書以來，我印象最深的事就是幾乎我的每個語文老師都要求我們把字寫好，要求我們練字。那時雖然聽老師說，但並未堅持下來，只是偶爾練一練，現在看著自己的字還真的有點後悔當初浪費了太多的時間，沒有把字練好。正好今年放寒假時學校校長給我們布置寒假作業，我想就利用寒假時間來練一練字吧。
但是堅持三天後，每天練兩頁，到了第四天，心就有點癢了，想想還是算了吧，反正一下子字也不會寫好的，但另一個聲音又在耳邊想起，要堅持，不要輕言放棄呀。最後經過矛盾的爭扎，我還是堅持了下來。尤其是當我碰到不順心的事情時，我就拿出紙和筆，安靜的練起字來，結果什麼煩心事都沒了。現在練字已經成為我生活的一種習慣，如里哪天不練倒覺得好像還有一件事情沒完成。經過自己的努力，現在我的字有了一定的進步，今後我還將繼續堅持下去。
寒假日記一
忙完了一個學期，剛開始停下來還有點不太適應。在平時工作時，每天都和學生相處在一起，雖然他們也會調皮，也會惹我生氣，但離開他們太久，心裡還是惦念著他們還在想著他們在來期來時是不是會更聽話了，是不是比以前有進步了等等。
回家已經有好幾天了，在這幾天里，我也在想這個寒假我將如何度過了，是嚮往年那樣呆在家裡看電視，或是到同學家裡串串門子還是做點其他的。但一想起這些，就想起了剛放假時校長給我們布置的寒假作業，可能在別人看來很奇怪吧，校長怎麼還會布置寒假作業，老師怎麼還會像學生那樣有寒假作業了，其實校長是讓我們在寒假裡多看書，多學習，為來期做好准備。其實這樣也挺好的，讓我們以後的工作制定目標，為了將明年的工作做得更好。現在每天在家裡看看書，練練字，也感覺自己的寒假生活挺充實的。
寒假日記二
同學聚會
自從放假以後，天天都是下著綿綿細細雨，今天終於放晴了，看著這樣的好天氣心裡特別高興，同時還有就是今天是我們高中同學相聚的日子。
早上，吃完早餐我早早地就從家裡出發了，朝著目的地我們的母校走去。一路上，思緒萬千，想像著同學們的變化以及見面以後會出現什麼樣的情景呢等等。時間不知不覺過去了，終於來到了我們的母校。一走進校園，以前的景象歷歷在目，頓時心底湧上了一種親切感，同時也發現我們的母校發生了很大的變化。首先是教學樓披上了新裝，粉刷一新，還有就是食堂的改變，圖書館的建成等等，這些都是我們離開後才出現的。走在校園的林蔭道上，仔細回想以前的讀書生活，還真的別有一番滋味。這時只見小道上稀稀疏走著幾個補課的學生，他們行色匆匆，現在時間對他們來說太寶貴了。沿著林蔭小道，我來到了我們聚會的地點——以前讀書的教室，這時已經有好幾個同學到了，我加快腳步，大聲地喊著她們的名字，這時自然有一番問候了，而且每個人臉上的驚喜之情都表露無疑。接下來在大家的笑聲中同學們陸陸續續地都來了，在一片問候聲後我們朝著下一個目的地走去——老師的家。我們的班主任依然如當年一樣，說話特別幽默，風趣。在接下去的時間就是大家聚餐，娛樂……
這一天在一片歡笑聲中結束了，同學聚會真好！
寒假日記三
練字

寒假日記四
春天來了
「一年之際在於春」「好的開始是成功的一半」，立春了，意味著春天來了。
春天來了，萬物復甦，百花齊放，百鳥爭鳴。
春天來了，春雨淅淅瀝瀝的下個不停，這時的它們也來感受春天的氣息，湊熱鬧來了。它們給地里的小麥，蔬菜補足水份，讓它們快快成長。俗語說「春雨貴如油」說得正是這些。你仔細看，地里的小麥，蔬菜長得多好呀，春風吹過，翻起了綠色的波浪。
春天來了，你再看河堤上的柳條也吐出了新芽，這時是春姑娘用她的巧手給大地換上了新裝，給人煥然一新的感覺。
春天來了，其實最高興的還是辛勤的人們，他們又要開始忙碌了，經過一個冬天的休整，他們一個個干勁十足。遠遠瞧去，只見田間三五一群的人們在高聲的談笑著。
春天來了真好！
寒假日記五
除夕
一年結束了，在除夕夜是團圓夜，家家戶戶都張燈結綵的，慶祝一年平安結束，新的一年好的開始。
在除夕這天，家家都忙著貼春聯，我們家也不例外，而且每年家裡的對聯還是由我來貼的。其實這貼對聯的學問也蠻大的，你去年時只要一看這對聯你就會知道這一家人在新的一年裡的希望和打算，也會知道在過去一年裡這家人家裡發生了什麼喜事，你看這對聯神不神呀。
在這一天最高興的還是小朋友們，他們早早地就叫著讓大人接年了，因為接完年之後就可以放煙花了。放煙花時，幾個小孩子在旁邊叫著，跳著，那高興勁就甭提了，就連大人也都被他們感染了跟著叫起來。放完煙花一家人圍在桌前吃團圓飯，最有趣的就是吃餃子了，而且這吃餃子還能吃到錢，誰吃到錢了那誰在新的一年裡的運氣將是最好的，所以大家都爭著吃，看誰也搶到那個有錢的餃子，但是不管吃到的也好，沒吃到的也好，這種搶著吃餃子的氣氛是最難忘的……
除夕夜是最難忘的一夜！
學自行車的苦與樂
與我同齡的許多同學都會騎自行車。而我卻不會。我看著他們騎著自行車，哼著歌兒，快速地在路上行駛的時候，我的心裡實在難受。我為什麼不能學騎自行車？不就那麼點難度系數2%的動作嗎？我難道就學不會？於是，我便向哥哥借了輛舊自行車學了起來。
第一次學騎時，我信心十足，昂著闊步地朝自行車走去，好像我一坐上去就能自行的呼嚕嚕地賓士起來。我麻利地坐上坐墊，可是腳還沒蹬，車子就倒下了，我也跌倒了。我爬起來，又重新坐上車，這次我小心了，慢慢地爬上去，雙腳撐著地，左腳踩蹬子，啊！我不禁叫了起來，右腳剛一離地，車子就倒了，摔得我屁股好像分成了四瓣。我長嘆了一口氣：「騎自行車原來這么苦，這么難啊！」
爸爸看到我有點泄氣了，便鼓勵我繼續騎下去，在爸爸的鼓勵下，我又來到自行車旁。爸爸讓我左腳在蹬子上蹬，右腳在地上跨步，增強平衡感。由於我的腳夠不著蹬子，自行車左右搖晃著前進，像是走貓步。在我的堅持不懈的努力和爸爸的鼓勵下，我已向成功邁出了第一步。爸爸接著讓我右腳著地，左腳去蹬腳蹬，我和車子立刻像喝醉酒的大漢站立不穩。爸爸讓我再試一次，我又失敗了。就在這樣一次一次的失敗後，有一次我居然成功了，我雙腳蹬著自行車，自行車平衡地前進了，我欣喜若狂高興得連眼淚都掉下來了。爸爸向我投來贊許的目光，說：「你既然成功了第一次，肯定還會成功第二次，第三次，第四次，騎自行車就是在一次次成功中學會的。果然，又學了幾次，我已經能夠拐彎行駛了，我終於學會了騎自行車。

夜。
夜，靜靜的，月光照在大地上，彷彿是一層輕紗，又彷彿是一層濃霜。這倒使我想起李白的「床前明月光，疑是地上霜」詩句。月光是那麼純，那麼真。
天上的星星，像是一個個調皮的小孩子，趁月亮媽媽不注意，悄悄地在天空中穿了幾個小洞洞 。把那隻一閃一閃的小眼睛望著大地，像在尋找什麼。而月亮媽媽卻在那裡 ，跟縷縷輕雲跳起了優美的舞蹈。它放射的光芒，是那麼的柔和。
萬物在月光的照射下，一切都變成了銀白色，像是蓋上了一層霜。我走進了一個童話的世界，一個美麗的世界。它是那麼神奇。
河面上，倒映著那明亮的月亮。我撿起一塊石頭，扔向河面。河中盪漾起那層層的微波。把河面的月亮晃得高低起伏。像鐮刀，又似殘缺的臉盆。
地面上，燈火輝煌。家家戶戶點著燈火，真像天上的星星。馬路上，一輛輛「俊馬」在飛奔，那兩只大眼睛睜得大大的為汽車照路，照得馬路像白天一樣。竹林里，竹子被月光照得銀白銀白，一陣風吹來，響起美妙的音樂。
啊！美麗的夜呀，我為你的美而感到驕傲，我永遠愛你。
