To find out whether bees(蜜蜂) see colours, the following experiment is made. A round table is put in a garden, and on the table is a piece of blue cardboard(硬紙版)with a drop of syrup(糖漿)on it. After a short time, bees come to the syrup. The bees then fly to their hive(蜂房)and give the syrup to other bees in the hive. Then they return to the feeding-place which they have found. After a while, the blue cardboard with the syrup on it is taken away. Instead of this card, a blue card is now put on the left side of the first feeding-place and a red card to its right. These new cards have no syrup on them. Very soon bees arrive again, and fly straight to the blue card. None go to the red card.

Now satellites are helping to forecast(預報)the weather. They are in space, and they can reach any part of the world. The satellites take pictures of the atmosphere(大氣), because this is where the weather forms(形成). They send these pictures to the weather stations. So meteorologists(氣象學家)can see the weather of any part of the world. From the pictures, the scientists can often say how the weather will change.
Today, nearly five hundred weather stations in sixty countries receive satellite pictures. When they receive new pictures, the meteorologists compare(比較)them with earlier ones. Perhaps they may find that the clouds have changed ring the last few hours. This may mean that the weather on the ground may soon change, too. In their next weather forecast, the meteorologists can say this.
So the weather satellites are a great help to the meteorologists. Before satellites were invented, the scientists could forecast the weather for about 24 or 48 hours. He used to cause a lot of trouble.
Martin Murray is a fifteen-year-old boy. He used to be a 「problem child」, but a recent conversation with his mother changed his life. He didn』 use to give his mother many problems. However, after his father』s death a few years ago, Martin』s life became much more difficult. His mother couldn』t afford to pay for her child』s ecation. To do this, she had to work, and so was not often at home.
His mother looked after him as well as she could. Unfortunately, Martin still caused problems for him-self and his family. He was not interested in studying, and he often got into trouble with the police. Luckily, his mother was very patient, and didn』t give up trying to help him. In the end, she made a difficult decision: to send him to a boy』s boarding school. Martin hated it and used to cause a lot of trouble. One day, he told his teacher he wanted to leave the school. Even the teacher agreed that Martin was wasting his time.
The head teacher said it was necessary to talk with his mother. Martin called his mother, but to his surprise, this phone call changed his life. 「It was exactly what I needed,」 he said. 「My mother helped me to understand how much she had given me. She also told me that even though my father was no longer with us, he was watching me, and would always take pride in everything good I do. That』s when I decided to change. I realize that since my father died, I have been afraid of being alone, and have tried to make my mother pay more attention to me.」
Now Martin has really changed. He has been working hard, and is now a top student in his class. How was he able to change? His mother』s love helped him to feel good about himself, and as Martin himself says, 「It』s very important for parents to be there for their children.」
