②英語的使用范圍非常廣泛。世界上70%以上的郵件是用英文寫或用英文寫地址的。全世界科技出版物 70% 以上用英語發表。全世界的廣播節目中，有60%是用英語進行的。絕大部分的國際會議是以英語為第一通用語言(90% 以上的國際會議用英語召開),它也是聯合國的正式工作語言之一。總之，在國際政治、軍事、經濟、科技、文化、貿易、交通運輸等領域，英語是一個重要的交際工具。隨著我國對外開放的不斷擴大化,科學技術的不斷進步,國際地位的不斷提高,迫切需要造就一大批精通外語的專門人才,以加速我國「四化」進程，使我國在國際事務中發揮更大更積極的作用。因此，學好英語對實現上述目標具有重要的現實意義和深遠的歷史意義。
我覺得英語是非常重要的，比如說：你來到了外國迷路了，或者要找人什麼的，你不會英語，你就無法和別人問路或者交談了。
英語的重要性是顯而易見的：信息高速公路「互聯網」信息近 80% 是由英語承載，許多技術性質和科學性質文獻資料都是採用英文書寫，這使以英語為母語的人群具有相當大的優勢，他們不需特別的學習就可以閱讀大量的資料。
學習英語必備的四個條件:
第一個必備條件：真正需要掌握英語，有掌握英語的慾望
第二個必備條件：有充足的學習時間
第三個必備條件：堅持的毅力和有效的學習
第四個必備條件：一定的學習方法和可執行的計劃
英語的用途
學習英語決心的大小與對英語用途的認識有關。如果認為「不出國用什麼英語」、「中文資料都看不過來，哪裡還有時間看英語資料」和「周圍的人大都不會英語，自己不會無所謂」等等，就不可能重視英語學習，學生有了這種思想，就會勉強應付，以通過考試作為學習目標，考試結束，英語學習也隨之結束；在職人員有了這種思想，雖然在形勢影響下也可能學習英語，但碰到一點困難，就會停止或放棄。如果認識到英語是我們了解世界和讓世界了解中國必不可少的工具，就會下決心一定要學會英語。
1．對外交流需要英語
例如隨著改革開放的深入發展，來華旅遊的外國人越來越多，他們需要與普通的中國人進行接觸與交流。正如有的來華旅遊者反映的「中國地大物博，風景秀麗，是旅遊者最有話與本地人說的一個國家，可是又是最找不到人（普通老百姓）說話的一個國家。」 他們的這個說法難道不是從另一個方面說明英語是很有用的嗎？ 各行各業的普通老百姓從實踐中已經認識到這一點，他們學習英語的積極性空前高漲，旅館服務員在學，出租汽車司機在學，個體商販也在學。

隨著近年來世界范圍的信息高速公路的高速發展，世界進入了信息社會和網路世界（1997年世界經濟論壇會議語），地球顯得越來越小，國內和國外的界限變得不大清楚了。從一定意義上講， 可以說國內就是國外。例如隨著Internet網上多媒體（文字、聲音和圖像）的World Wide Web（即www）的出現，各種虛擬（virtual）事物層出不窮。只要有一台電腦和相應的軟體，加入網上的虛 擬大學（virtual university），用不著出國就可以上國外的大學並獲得學位；在網上進行虛擬旅遊（virtual tourism），足不出戶就可以周遊世界。由於電腦空間（cyberspace）里信息極其豐富和詳細，在電腦上進行虛擬旅遊後對於世界名勝古跡的了解和印象可能比實地到過的人還要深刻和全面，真是「秀才不出門，全知天下事，立知天下事」。
但是所有這一切都離不開英語，因為網上百分之九十以上的信息是英語。Internet網上各種信息名目繁多，五花八門，網點配置錯綜復雜，猶如一個信息迷宮。面對電腦鍵盤，用什麼指令進入這個迷宮，在不斷變化的屏幕英語顯示面前，怎樣一步一步進行下去，都要在動態搜索過程中實時做出判斷。很顯然，要做到這一點， 沒有比較高的英語水平是不行的。英語水平不高的人進入1nternet網，在紛繁的英語屏幕提示面前，邊查詞典邊分析語法，剛開始時也許還能勉強進行幾步，用不了多長時間就會胡亂擊鍵，搜索到那兒算那兒，在資料的大海里隨波逐流，聽天由命。其結果不是找到需要的信息，而是淹沒在信息的汪洋大海之中，他們對於Internet的熱情也就隨之減退。此外還有一個費用問題。1nternet網的資料檢索是聯機在線進行的，佔用一分鍾要交一分鍾的費用（即使所檢索的資料免費，佔用的通信線路的費用總是要交的）。所以只有具有較高的英語水平，面對屏幕上的英語提示，一看就懂，才能在最短的時間，花最少的費用就能到達合適的網點，找到的合適資料，盡情享受高科技帶給我們的樂趣。

不少人認為只有在國內搞高科技的人才需要查閱國外的英語資料，從事一般科技工作的人就不一定需要了。其實這是一個極大的誤解。
