10年前，聯合國教科文組織把4月23日確定為「世界圖書與版權日（又稱「世界讀書日」）。2005年4月23日是第10個「世界讀書日」。自1995年世界讀書日宣布以來，每年的這一天世界上100多個國家和地區在政府的支持下，出版機構、學校、圖書館、社區等各界人士都要開展豐富多彩的閱讀日慶典活動，把讀書日的宣傳活動變成一場熱熱鬧鬧的歡樂節日。
但是，在中國，這個世界性的讀書節還未被社會公眾所知曉，更談不上是節日。據搜狐讀書網站2004年調查顯示：知道「世界讀書日」的人僅佔6%，27%的人雖聽說過但不知詳情，67%的人從未聽說過這個日子。

深夜，保姆覺得無聊就想去樓下看電視。但是她看不了，因為樓下沒有電視（因為孩子的父母不希望他們的孩子看太多垃圾）。她就打電話給孩子的父母，問是否可以在他們的卧室看電視，當然孩子的父母同意了。
但保姆又想要最後一個請求。
她問是否可以用毯子或者衣服蓋住那小丑雕像，因為那使她感到很害怕。
電話沉默了一會。
（此時爸爸在和保姆通話）
他說：帶孩子離開房間……
我們將會叫警察……我們從來沒有什麼小丑雕像。
那小丑很可能是一個從監獄逃出來的殺人犯。
電話里沉默了一會兒。
（正在跟保姆通話的孩子的父親）說：帶上孩子們，離開房子……我們會通知警察……我們沒有一個小丑雕像……
孩子們和保姆被小丑謀殺了。
結果是，小丑是一個從監獄里逃出來的殺人犯。
