（2）英語閱讀可以豐富學生頌塵的寫作技能。閱讀和寫作都是建立在語篇的基礎上的，思想的交流，信息的傳遞並不是簡單的「詞彙+語法規則」。可以說，脫離了篇章結構分析的閱讀教學，學生對文章內容的理解往往是支離破碎的。這里所說的建構篇章的能力是指作者根據自己的寫作意圖，為文章謀篇布局的能力。這種能力對作文的成功與否至關重要，因為即使作文的詞語再准確，內容再生動，沒有一定的篇章知識和構建篇章的能力，就會有文無篇。而這些篇章知識，建構篇章的技能是可以在閱讀教學中獲得和發展的。因此，在英語閱讀中，學生通過閱讀，揣摩作者的意圖，把握文章的整體框架結構，通過對文章的各個段落層次的分析，領悟文章句與句，段與段之間的邏輯聯系及寫作者所採用的各種銜接手段，並藉以掌握英語寫作的內在規律，進而增強篇章意識，學會從宏觀的角度構築文章的框架結構，為將來的英語寫作準備必要的技能。通過鑒賞、模仿及反復運用，形成自己的寫作技能，為進一步的獨立寫作創造條件。
3. 閱讀可以培養英語語感
語感（sense of language）是圖式中語言知識和文化背景知識的總和，也稱語感圖式。它是學習者通過對一定量的接觸而對目標語言的習慣性產生的一種敏銳的直覺，是人們對語言的一種豐富的、敏銳的感受能力。語感是在不斷的閱讀中逐步形成的，並且是多種心理功能協同活動的結果。要獲得語感，最基本也是最根本的途經是閱讀。閱讀可以加強英語語感，培養英語思維方式，對英語寫作起到潛移默化的作用。在閱讀中，學生通過分析材料在體裁、結構、內容、語言上的特點，有目的地進行閱讀；不斷地與英語接觸，充分感受原汁原味的詞彙、語法、句子、慣用語和文化背景知識，反復研讀、背誦，使之進入大腦圖式系統，久而久之，自然而然地形成對英語的知覺認知，從而養成一定的英語語感。
除此之外，閱讀活動既可讓閱讀者從書面材料中獲取到需要的知識信息，同時又可影響到閱讀者的非智力因素。通過閱讀，學生大量接觸到內容不同、體裁各異的英語文章，這些文章為學生提供了豐富多彩的社會生活的各個方面的信息，隨著對文章思想內容理解的不斷加深，不斷領悟到文章中所提供的各種社會生活信息，學生也必定會潛移默化地受到思想感情上的熏陶與感染，做到「悟意明理」。也就是說，理解了包孕於文章中的思想感情和精神實質，在積累大量的語言知識的同時，砒礪自己的思想，培養高尚的情操，在一定的程度上學會做人。古人說「文如其人」，人品即文品，學生多讀胸襟自高，出言立意則能站得高，看得遠，言人之未能言。為今後寫出立意高遠、思想健康、內容充實、有較高品位的英語作文做准備。

如圖1所示，閱讀能幫我們積累大量的的知識，包括語言知識、屬於文化背景知識方面的內容知識，屬於句子結構的形式知識等。有了足夠的知識積累，也就有了語感，有了語感，自然就生成了語言應用能力。由此可得到一些教學方面的啟示。
二、對英語閱讀教學的建議
好的閱讀材料是一個巨大的寫作素材庫，總有值得品味、模仿、借鑒的寫法特點。那麼，在英語教學中如何進行有效的閱讀活動呢？
1.創新使用教材，精選課外閱讀材料
教材是課程資源的核心部分，是教學活動的媒介和載體，教師開展教學活動的主要依據。創新地使用教材，就是要善於結合實際教學需要，靈活地和有創造性地使用教材，教材中閱讀課文是積累寫作素材、豐富語言、語法的示範本。通過對近年來從國外引進的教材特點分析來看，發現他們的教材在教學指導思想，教學目標、內容選擇和設計形式等方面都有不同的變化。比較重視交際性教學，注重發展學生的語言知識和技能，重視培養學生運用口語和書面語進行交際的能力。由此得到啟示，在使用和處理教材時，應關注「語言輸入」和「技能發展」的有機結合。目前新教材中教學內容中課文佔了很大的比例，故課文閱讀教學是實施新教材教學的重頭戲。這就要求教師根據學生實際，從編排順序、教學方法等方面對教材中的聽說讀寫幾個模塊進行適當的取捨或調整。要學會「用教材來教」而不是「教教材」。
另外，在選擇課外閱讀材料時，也要選擇適合自己的進行閱讀。大量的閱讀材料一般選材廣泛，科普、文學、人物等，覆蓋面廣，這些材料能增加知識，擴大視野，提高學習興趣，多讀小說簡寫本或原版著作，英語雜志和報紙，比如，《英語學習》、《英語沙龍》、《英語自學》、《英語世界》和《雙語報》都是很不錯的閱讀材料。
2.欣賞閱讀，為寫作而閱讀
此階段的學生已經掌握了一定的詞彙量，也有一定的思想，但在文學作品欣賞能力方面還比較欠缺，因此進行欣賞性閱讀可以幫助學生掃除閱讀障礙，培養閱讀興趣，從而提高他們的語言知識和發展語言技能，更有助於提升他們的人文素養。欣賞性閱讀主要是在理解文章表層含義的基礎上欣賞文學作品的優美詞句、故事情節發展、人物形象與修辭手法等。這些都需要教師給予及時的點撥和指導。在選擇閱讀材料時，要從培養交際層面去選擇對寫作有幫助的閱讀材料。劉鷹從閱讀目的出發將閱讀分為：「實用交流類閱讀、語言學習類閱讀和備考測試類閱讀」。因此，教師可以引導學生選擇一些內容簡單，文體特點鮮明（篇章結構、邏輯關系、連接紐帶等）這樣的語言類閱讀材料。作為對課外寫作教學的補充。
寫作知識是從閱讀中來的。學生要提高學生的書面表達能力，就必須做到廣泛閱讀各種文體的文章，熟悉各種體裁文章寫法，在閱讀中欣賞、讀懂，有感而發，想說，想寫。在閱讀過程中，當讀者，當說者，當作者。

英語課外閱讀十大好處
（1）提供可理解輸入；
（2）促進整體語言水平發展；
（3）增加語言學習機會；
（4）增加詞彙知識；
（5）促進寫作能力的提高；
（6）激發閱讀動機；
（7）鞏固已學知識；
（8）有助於建立長篇課文閱讀的自信心；
（9）為口語活動提供了大量機會；
（10）鼓勵利用冗餘（辨認和處理文中多餘信息的能力）。
Krashen（1993）指出，「閱讀是特有的、唯一能使我們成為好讀者的方式。它幫助我們培養良好的寫作風格，提高拼寫能力，攝取充足的詞彙知識並使我們精通語法。」
英語課外閱讀應包含以下特點
（1）大量（或長篇文本）閱讀；
（2）以整體理解為目的；
（3）以快樂為主；
（4）自主行為；
（5）不做練習。
從特點可知，這里所指的課外閱讀，不是指專門的有題目的完形填空或閱讀理解之類，應是真正的課外的'適合學生閱讀的英語材料；
課外閱讀，不能像課堂閱讀專練一般地功利。應努力將閱讀轉型為「悅」讀；
英語課外閱讀的意義重大，課標中也有明確規定，七年級、八年級、九年級分別閱讀4萬、6萬、5萬的課外讀物，初中階段要完成15萬的閱讀量。其實，分散到平時，每一天，量並不大。但沒有老師的指導，沒有老師指導下的合理規劃，學生往往是無法完成這一任務，達到相應要求的。
