In England recently three foreign gentlemen came to a bus stop and waited . About five minutes later, the bus they wanted came along. They were just going to get on when suddenly there was a loud noise behind them. People rushed onto the bus and tried to push them out of the way . Someone shouted at them. No one had told them about the British custom (習慣)of lining up for a bus that the first person who arrives at the bus stop is the first person to get on the bus .
Learning the language of a country isn't enough. If you want to have a pleasant visit, find out as much as possible about the manners and customs of your host country. You will probably be surprised just how different they can be from your own. A visitor to India would do well to remember that people there consider it impolite to use the left hand for passing food at table. The left hand is supposed to be used for washing yourself. In that country, you shake your head to mean 'yes'— a nod means 'no' . At a meal in countries on the Arabic Peninsula, you will find that your glass is repeated refilled as soon as you drink up . If you think that you have had enough , you should take the cup or glasses in your hand and give it a little shake from side to side or place your hand over the top.

Most people want to be successful in life, but success can comeabout in four ways: fame, money, knowledge, and pleasure. Success isalso usually characterized by the word more; to be successful, peoplefeel they have to be more famous, have more money, absorb moreinformation, or enjoy life more.
Success does not need to be characterized by quantity, however.Instead, you can measure the success of your life by its quality. It isnot important, for example, how many people know you but who knows youand for what. Working in your community or on good relationships withfamily and friends can bring quality fame. Earning less money butspending it wisely and learning the joy saving is another way tosucceed. Learning more so that you can turn around and teach someoneelse proces quality knowledge. And finally, all the above will mostlikely bring you quality success in enjoying the pleasures of living.
Success, in conclusion, can be seen in different ways by differentpeople. Only one thing is sure. No matter what other people see, theonly one who knows whether you're succeeded is you.

When Julia Somberg eats her favorite food, she feels bad. She knows that chocolate can have a lot fat and sugar. But Julia says she loves chocolate so much---once she starts eating it, she can』t stop.
Julia isn』t the only one who loves chocolate. It is a favorite food for people all over the world. People prefer chocolate over ice cream, cake, and cookies.
The idea of eating chocolate didn』t begin until the 19th century. Before that, people drank chocolate. The habit began in Central American where the Aztecs drank bowls of chocolate to stay watchful. When the liquid(液體) chocolate was brought to Spain in the 1500s, people thought it was medicine because it had a medicine taste. In fact, the people who made chocolate into drinks were doctors.
Then people discovered that mixing chocolate with sugar made a wonderful drink. King Ferdinand of Spain loved this drink so much that he put out an order: anyone who talked about chocolate outside the court(法庭)would be killed. For about 100 years, chocolate was a secret in Spain.
Finally, people found out about chocolate, and it became a popular drink in Europe. Later, the Swiss mixed milk and chocolate. Today, most Americans prefer milk chocolate, while most Europeans prefer dark chocolate.
New research shows that chocolate is actually good for us.「Chocolate has different kinds of vitamins,」 says a researcher in France. 「It has more than 300 different chemicals. One chemical works on the part of the brain(大腦) that feels pleasure. People who feel good when they eat chocolate are actually healthier. Feeling pleasure is important for health and can protect against illness.」 「Good chocolate doesn』t have much fat or sugar. The Meaning of Happiness
「What the happiness is」 is the question that we are always asked. People hold different opinion as they experience the different life. For some people, they believe that happiness is to own the great success in career and earn a lot of money. For another people believe that doing what they want is the biggest happiness. In my opnion, I agree with the latter.
It is very lucky to live the life we want and enjoy the things we do. For some very successful busines *** en, they are busy all the day, travelling through different cities to talk about the projects. When they have time at midnight, they always feel lonely deep in their hearts and wonder about what they are doing these for.
While for some ordinary people who can slow down the life pace and enjoy the life, they know the meaning of happiness. They put their family in the first place and cherish the time spend with them. Life is short, they know exactly what they want and don』t want to waste the time on vanity fair.
The meaning of happiness es from the moment and the things we enjoy.

How to Treat Disabled People
When we take the bus, it has been a rule that the seats are first preoccupied by the old, the disabled and the pregnant. Most people respect the rules, while some people are refused to do it, because they think there is no law to regulate that we must take the seat for others. The disabled people are special part, we should be considerate.
Disabled people are special part in the society. paring to the ordinary people, they look a little different, they don』t have the perfect outlook, which makes them distinct among the crowd. Such situation makes them very awkward, they don』t want people stare at them, they just want to be the ordinary one.
We should respect and take care of the disabled people. We should not treat them as the special ones, they are equal with us, though they don』t have the perfect outlook, in their hearts, they are just as tough as us. So we should not separate them, just make friends with them.
More and more people have realized the disabled people are ordinary, we should show our love and respect to them.

There was once a guy who suffered from cancer, a cancer that can't be cured. He was 18 years old and he could die anytime. All his life, he was stuck in his house being taken cared by his mother. He never went outside but he was sick of staying home and wanted to go out for once. So he asked his mother and she gave him permission.
He walked down his block and found a lot of stores. He passed a CD store and looked through the front door for a second as he walked. He stopped and went back to look into the store. He saw a beautiful girl about his age and he knew it was love at first sight. He opened the door and walked in, not looking at anything else but her. He walked closer and closer until he was finally at the front desk where she sat.
She looked up and asked, "Can I help you?"
She smiled and he thought it was the most beautiful smile he has ever seen before and wanted to kiss her right there.
He said, "Uh... Yeah... Umm... I would like to buy a CD."
He picked one out and gave her money for it.
"Would you like me to wrap it for you?" she asked, smiling her cute smile again.「
He nodded and she went to the back. She came back with the wrapped CD and gave it to him. He took it and walked out of the store.
He went home and from then on, he went to that store every day and bought a CD, and she wrapped it for him. He took the CD home and put it in his closet. He was still too shy to ask her out and he really wanted to but he couldn't. His mother found out about this and told him to just ask her. So the next day, he took all his courage and went to the store as usual. He bought a CD like he did every day and once again she went to the back of the store and came back with it wrapped. He took it and when she wasn't looking, he left his phone number on the desk and ran out...
RRRRRING!!!
One day the phone rang, and the mother picked it up and said, "Hello?"
It was the girl!!! The mother started to cry and said, "You don』t know? He passed away yesterday..."
The line was quiet except for the cries of the boy's mother. Later in the day, the mother went into the boy's room because she wanted to remember him. She thought she would start by looking at his clothes. So she opened the closet.
She was face to face with piles and piles and piles of unopened CDs. She was surprised to find all these CDs and she picked one up and sat down on the bed and she started to open one. Inside, there was a CD and as she took it out of the wrapper, out fell a piece of paper. The mother picked it up and started to read it. It said: Hi... I think U R really cute. Do u wanna go out with me? Love, Jocelyn.
The mother was deeply moved and opened another CD...
Again there was a piece of paper. It said: Hi... I think U R really cute. Do u wanna go out with me? Love, Jocelyn.

Have you ever found yourself in the place to console anyone?
Every now and then we see people get emotional around us.
Sometimes they experience tragedy.
Sometimes they just find out that life doesn't go as they planned.

But what would you say?
Would you say "I understand you."?
In my experience most people would.
But don't. Someone with high EQ would never say that.
Because it doesn't console anyone. It only hurts and makes people angry.
Everyone's life is unique. Everyone's experience is unique. Everyone's feeling is unique.
Don't assume that you know anyting about anyone.
'Cause you don't.

I was running a few errands in my car the other day. The sun was out, the radio was playing, and I was singing along. The song was a joyful one and even my weak voice sounded good singing it. Then it happened, however. The sweet sound of the music ended and was replaced with the dreaded news break.
I drove on while the announcer droned on. Gas prices were going higher again because of the competitive speculation on Wall Street. The race for the Presidency was getting nastier and nastier, Rioting had broken out when fans of a sports team had gone wild, celebrating their team』s championship.
Finally, I could take no more and turned off the radio. Silence seemed preferable to listening to anything else about the crazy, competitive society we live in. I slowed down as I entered a local town and watched the people as I drove by.
A tall muscular man was helping an elderly lady out of a car and helping her position her walker so she could go into a local store.
A smiling woman was tossing birdseed into her backyard while a dozen Robins flew down to enjoy the feast being laid out before them.
A young man was walking along, carrying his two year old daughter safely in his arms. He tickled her gently when she pulled the hat off his head and they both laughed. I laughed too as I looked at all of this kindness. It felt like a glimpse of Heaven. The radio may have been off in my car, but in my heart I was still singing.
In truth, this world could use a little more kindness and a lot less competition. Kindness makes us all winners in this life. Kindness reminds us that we are all God』s Children. Kindness shows us that we don』t have to beat others in this world.
We just have to love them. May all of your moments here then be full of kindness, love, and joy. And may your only competition be with yourself: to be the best possible you that you can be.

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. After about an hour or so,the man had calmed down. And started to think. The man went to the door of the iIttle boy's roomand opened the door."Are you asleep, son?" he asked. "no daddy," replied the boy. "I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier." said the man, "Here's the $10 you asked for." the little boy sat straight up, smiling. "Oh, thank you daddy!" he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man, seeing that the boy already had money, started to get angry agaIn. A mother, wishing to encourage her son's progress at the piano, bought tickets to a performance by the great Polish pianist Ignace Paderewski. When the evening arrived, they found their seats near the front of the concert hall and eyed the majestic Steinway waiting on the stage. Soon the mother found a friend to talk to, and the boy slipped away.
At eight o'clock, the lights in the auditorium began to dim, the spotlights came on, and only then did they notice the boy - up on the piano bench, innocently picking out "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." His mother gasped in shock and embarassment but, before she could retrieve her son, the master himself appeared on the stage and quickly moved to the keyboard. He whispered gently to the boy, "Don't quit. Keep playing." Leaning over, Paderewski reached down with his left hand and began filling in the bass part. Soon his right arm reached around the other side and improvised a delightful obligato. Together, the old master and the young novice held the crowd mesmerized with their blended and beautiful music.
In all our lives, we receive helping hands - some we notice, some we don't. Equally we ourselves have countless opportunites to provide helping hands - sometimes we would like our assistance to be noticed, sometimes we don't. Little of what we all achieve is without learning from others and without support from others and what we receive we should hand out.

「Let』s go to the fair, Matt,」 his wife said, 「We haven』t been anywhere for a long time.」
Matt thought about this for a while. He knew he would have to spend money at the fair. At last he said, 「All right, but I』m not going to spend much money. We』ll look at things, but we won』t buy anything.」
They went to the fair and looked at all the things to buy. There were many things Matt』s wife wanted to buy ,but he would not let her spend any money.
Then , in a nearby field, they saw a small airplane.
「Fun flight!」 the notice said, 「$10 for 10 minutes.」

The pilot took off and made his airplane do all kinds of things. At one moment it was flying upside down.
When the plane landed , the pilot said, 「O.K. your wife didn』t make a sound . She can have her ride free.」
「Thank you,」 Matt said. 「it wasn』t easy for her, you know , especi ally (尤其 ) when she fell out.」

The Father and His Sons
A FATHER had a family of sons who were perpetually quarreling among themselves. When he failed to heal their disputes by his exhortations, he determined to give them a practical illustration of the evils of disunion; and for this purpose he one day told them to bring him a bundle of sticks. When they had done so, he placed the faggot into the hands of each of them in succession, and ordered them to break it in pieces. They tried with all their strength, and were not able to do it. He next opened the faggot, took the sticks separately, one by one, and again put them into his sons' hands, upon which they broke them easily. He then addressed them in these words: "My sons, if you are of one mind, and unite to assist each other, you will be as this faggot, uninjured by all the attempts of your enemies; but if you are divided among yourselves , you will be broken as easily as these sticks."
A Boy and His Tree
A long time ago, there was a huge apple tree. A little boy loved to come and play around it every day. He climbed to the tree top, ate the apples, took a nap under the shadow… He loved the tree and the tree loved to play with him.
Time went by…The little boy had grown up and he no longer played around the tree.
One day, the boy came back to the tree and looked sad. 「Come and play with me,」 the tree asked the boy.「I am no longer a kid, I don』t play around trees anymore.」 The boy replied, 「I want toys. I need money to buy them.」 「Sorry, but I don』t have money…but you can pick all my apples and sell them. So, you will have money.」 The boy was so excited. He picked all the apples on the tree and left happily. The boy didn』t come back after he picked the apples. The tree was sad.
One day, the boy returned and the tree was so excited. 「Come and play with me.」 The tree said. 「I don』t have time to play. I have to work for my family. We need a house for shelter. Can you help me?」 「Sorry, but I don』t have a house. But you can cut off my branches to build your house.」 So the boy cut all the branches of the tree and left happily.
The tree was glad to see him happy but the boy didn』t appear since then. The tree was again lonely and sad. One hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was delighted. 「Come and play with me!」 the tree said.「I am sad and getting old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?」 「Use my trunk to build the boat. You can sail and be happy.」 So the boy cut the tree trunk to make a boat. He went sailing and did not show up for a long time.
Finally, the boy returned after he left for so many years. 「Sorry, my boy. But I don』t have anything for you anymore. No more apples for you.」 the tree said. 「 I don』t have teeth to bite.」 The boy replied. 「 No more trunk for you to climb on.」 「I am too old for that now.」 the boy said. 「I really want to give you something…the only thing left is my dying roots.」 The tree said with tears. 「I don』t need much now, just a place to rest. I am tired after all these years.」 The boy replied. 「Good! Old tree roots are the best place to lean on and rest. Come here, please sit down with me and have a rest.」 The boy sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears…
This is a story of everyone. The tree is our parent. When we were young, we loved to play with Mom and Dad… When we grow up, we leave them, and only come to them when we need something or when we are in trouble. No matter what, parents will always be there and give everything they could to make you happy. You may think that the boy is cruel to the tree but that's how all of us are treating our parents.

All you remember about your child being an infant is the incredible awe you felt about the precious miracle you created. You remember having plenty of time to bestow all your wisdom and knowledge. You thought your child would take all of your advice and make fewer mistakes, and be much smarter than you were. You wished for your child to hurry and grow up.
All you remember about your child being two is never using the restroom alone or getting to watch a movie without talking animals. You recall afternoons talking on the phone while crouching in the bedroom closet, and being convinced your child would be the first Ivy League college student to graate wearing pullovers at the ceremony. You remember worrying about the bag of M&M's melting in your pocket and ruining your good dress. You wished for your child to be more independent.
All you remember about your child being five is the first day of school and finally having the house to yourself. You remember being asked "Is Santa real?" and saying "yes" because he had to be for a little bit longer. You remember shaking the sofa cushions for loose change, so the toothfairy could come and take away your child's first lost tooth. You wished for your child to have all permanent teeth.
All you remember about your child being seven is the carpool schele. You learned to apply makeup in two minutes and brush your teeth in the rearview mirror because the only time you had to yourself was when you were stopped at red lights. You considered painting your car yellow and posting a "taxi" sign on the lawn next to the garage door. You remember people staring at you, the few times you were out of the car, because you kept flexing your foot and making acceleration noises. You wished for the day your child would learn how to drive.
All you remember about your child being ten is managing the school fund-raisers. You sold wrapping paper for paint, T-shirts for new furniture, and magazine subscriptions for shade trees in the school playground. You remember storing a hundred cases of candy bars in the garage to sell so the school band could get new uniforms, and how they melted together on an unseasonably warm spring afternoon. You wished your child would grow out of playing an instrument.
All you remember about your child being twelve is sitting in the stands ring baseball practice and hoping your child's team would strike out fast because you had more important things to do at home. The coach didn't understand how busy you were. You wished the baseball season would be over soon.
All you remember about your child being fourteen is being asked not to stop the car in front of the school in the morning. You wished your child would be more mature.

Courage
The courage of life is often a less dramatic spectacle than the courage of a final moment; but it is no less a magnificent mixture of triumph and tragedy. A man does what he must----in spite of personal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures----and that is the basis of all human morality. To be courageous…requires no exceptional qualifications, no magic formula, no special combination of time, place and circumstance. It is an opportunity that sooner or later is presented to us all. Politics merely furnishes one arena which imposes special tests of courage. In whatever arena of life one may meet the challenge of courage, whatever may be the sacrifices he faces if he follows his conscience----the loss of his friends, his fortune, his contentment, even the esteem of his fellow men----each man must decide for himself the course he will follow. The stories of past courage can define that ingredient----they can teach, they can offer hope, they can provide inspiration. But they cannot supply courage itself. For this each man must look into his own soul.

If you do not use your arm or your legs for some time, they become weak; when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory works in the same way. When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong. If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault(過錯). But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame(受責備), and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people can’t read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember things; they cannot write down in a little notebook.
