Sometimes you』ll hear people say that you can』t love others until you love yourself.Sometimes you』ll hear people say that you can』t expect someone else to love you until you love yourself.Either way, you』ve got to love yourself first and this can be tricky.Sure we all know that we』re the apple of our parents』 eyes, and that our Grandmas think we』re great talents and our Uncle Roberts think that we will go to the Olympics.but sometimes it』s a lot harder to think such nice thoughts about ourselves. If you find that believing in yourself is a challenge.it is time you build a positive self-image and learn to love yourself.
Self-image is your own mind』s picture of yourself. This image includes the way you look, the way you act, the way you talk and the way you think.Interestingly, our self-images are often quite different from the images others hold about US.Unfortunately, most of these images are more negative than they should be.Thus changing the way you think about yourself is the key to changing your self-image and your whole world.
The best way to defeat a passive self-image is to step back and decide to stress your successes. That is, make a list if you need to, but write down all of the great things you do every day.Don』t allow doubts to occur in it.
It very well might be that you are experiencing a negative self-image because you can』t move past one flaw or weakness that you see about yourself.Well, roll up your sleeves and make a change of it as your primary task.If you think you』re silly because you aren』t good at math, find a tutor. If you think you』re weak because you can』t run a mile, get to the track and practice. If you think you』re ll because you don』t wear the latest trends, buy a few new clothes. But remember, just because you think it doesn』t mean it』s true.
The best way to get rid of a negative serf-image is to realize that your image is far from objective, and to actively convince yourself of your positive qualities.Changing the way you think and working on those you need to improve will go a long way towards promoting a positive self-image.When you can pat(拍) yourself on the back, you』ll know you』re well on your way.Good luck!
41.You need to build a positive self-image when you _________.
A.dare to challenge yourself B.feel it hard to change yourself
C.are unconfident about yourself D.have a high opinion of yourself
42.According to the passage, our serf-images _________.
A.have positive effects B.are probably untrue
C.are often changeable D.have different functions
43.How should you change your serf-image according to the passage?
A.To keep a different image of others. B.To make your life successful.
C.To understand your own world. D.To change the way you think.
44.What is the passage mainly about?
A.How to prepare for your success. B.How to face challenges in your life.
C.How to build a positive self-image. D.How to develop your good qualities.
45.Who are the intended readers of the passage?
A.Parents. B.Adolescents. C.Ecators. D.People in general.

What should you think about when trying to find your career? You are probably better at some school subjects than others. These may show strengths that you can use in your work. A boy who is good at mathematics can use that in an engineering career. A girl who spells well and likes English may be good at office work. So it is important to know the subjects you do well in at school. On the other hand, you may not have any specially strong subjects but your records show a general satisfactory standard. Although not all subjects can be used directly in a job, they may have indirect value. A knowledge of history is not required for most jobs but if history is one of your good subjects you will have learned to remember facts and details. This is an ability that can be useful in many jobs.
Your school may have taught you skills, such as typing or technical drawing, which you can use in your work. You may be good at metalwork or cookery and look for a job where you can improve these skills. If you have had a part-time job on Saturdays or in the summer, think what you gained from it. If nothing else, you may have learned how to get to work on time, to follow instructions and to get on with older workers. You may have learned to give correct change in a shop, for example. Just as important, you may become interested in a particular instry or career you see from the inside in a part-time job.
Facing your weak points is also part of knowing yourself. You may be all thumbs when you handle tools; perhaps you are a poor speller or cannot add up a column of figures. It is better to face any weakness than to pretend they do not exist. Your school record, for instance, may not be too good, yet it is an important part of your background. You should not be apologetic about it but instead recognize that you will have a chance of a fresh start at work.
46. We can infer from the first paragraph that ________.
learning better at school shows power in your job
the better you are at school subjects, the more helpful they are in your career.
learning each subject well is an ability in many jobs.
we should think about how to find our career
47. From the passage we learn that if a student』s school performance is not good, he will _____.
A. have no hope in his future work
B. be hopeful to find a suitable job
C. regret not having worked harder at school
D. have an opportunity of a new beginning in his future work
48. All the subjects may have direct value for job hunting except _________.
A. mathematics B. English C. history D. technical drawing
49. The underlined phrase 「be all thumbs」 (in Paragraph 3) probably means 「_________」.
A. heavy- handed B. the best C. important D. skilled
50. The passage mainly discusses ___________.
A. The relationship between school performance and career
B. how to get a job
C. How to show strengths in your work
D. working experience and knowledge at school

A→Q→A(A=Article,Q=Question),即先從整體去閱讀文章,後看問題,還是Q→A→Q,即先把整個問題快速看一遍,然後帶著問題在文章中找答案?
Talk? We're friends.(2001全國,C)
Betty shrugs. Why are we talking so long? We're friends.
某一段的主題句也常出現在段首或段尾,而且常有一些表歸納關系的信號 詞,如in short, In a word, in brief, to sum up, to conclude等。 What is the main idea/topic of the passage? The central point of the se-lection is that. The author is mainly concerned with. The passages mainly about等。
The word「…」in the context means. The word「…」could be best replaced by… Which of the following is nearest meaning to? The word「…」probably refers to.
Which of the following is NOT included(mentioned)in the passage? Which of the following sentences is NOT true?
We can infer/learn from the(last) paragraph that. It can be concluded from the passage that. The pas-sage implies/suggests that. What can be concluded from the passage? The author's purpose of writing the passage is.

In England recently three foreign gentlemen came to a bus stop and waited . About five minutes later, the bus they wanted came along. They were just going to get on when suddenly there was a loud noise behind them. People rushed onto the bus and tried to push them out of the way . Someone shouted at them. The bus conctor came rushing down the stairs to see what all the trouble was about. The three foreigners seem all at sea and looked embarrassed (窘迫的 . No one had told them about the British custom (習慣)of lining up for a bus that the first person who arrives at the bus stop is the first person to get on the bus .
Learning the language of a country isn't enough. If you want to have a pleasant visit, find out as much as possible about the manners and customs of your host country. You will probably be surprised just how different they can be from your own. A visitor to India would do well to remember that people there consider it impolite to use the left hand for passing food at table. The left hand is supposed to be used for washing yourself. Also in India, you might see a man shaking his head at another to show that he doesn't agree. But in many parts of India a shake of the head means agreement. Nodding your head when you are given a drink in Bulgaria will most probably leave you thirsty .
In that country, you shake your head to mean 'yes'— a nod means 'no' . At a meal in countries on the Arabic Peninsula, you will find that your glass is repeated refilled as soon as you drink up . If you think that you have had enough , you should take the cup or glasses in your hand and give it a little shake from side to side or place your hand over the top.
In Europe it quite usual to cross your legs when you are sitting talking to someone even at an important meeting. Doing this in Thailand, however, could bring about trouble . Also, you should try to avoid (避免)touching the head of an alt (成人) ——it's just not done in Thailand .

The police do many things for us. They help keep our things and us safe. They help keep cars moving safely. They take care of people who are hurt. Then they see these people get to a doctor. The police go around town to see that everything is all right. They get around town in many ways. Some of them walk or go by car. In some big cities, some of the police ride on horses. It is strange to see these animals in the street.
As they go around town, the police help people. Sometimes they find lost children. They take the children home. If the police see a fight, they put an end to it right away. Sometimes people will ask the police how to get to a place in town. The police can always tell the people which way to go. They know all the streets and roads well.
Some police stand at crossings. They tell the cars when to go and when to stop. They make sure that the cars do not go too fast. They help children cross the street. They also help people who can't walk too well.
Without the police, our streets would not be safe. Cars might go too fast and hurt people. Lost people might never be found. The police do a good job. We need them. And we should thank them for a job well done.

The Best of Friends
The evidence for harmony may not be obvious in some families. But it seems that four out of five young people now get on with their parents, which is the opposite of the popularly-held image(形象)of unhappy teenagers locked in their room after endless family quarrels.
An important new study into teenage attitudes surprisingly shows that their family life is more harmonious than it has ever been in the past.“We were surprised by just how positive today’s young people seem to be about their families,” said one member of the research team. “They’re expected to be rebellious(叛逆的)and selfish, but actually they have other things on their minds: they want a car and material goods, and they worry about whether school is serving them well. There’s more negotiation(商議)and discussion between parents and children, and children expect to take part in the family decision-making process. They don’t want to rock the boat.”
So it seems that this generation of parents is much more likely than parents of 30 years ago to treat their children as friends.“My parents are happy to discuss things with me and willing to listen to me," says 17-year-old Daniel Lazall. “I always tell them when I’m going out clubbing. As long as they know what I’m doing, they’re fine with it.” Susan Crome, who is now 21, agrees. “Looking back on the last 10 years, there was a lot of what you could call negotiation. For example, as long as I’d done all my homework, I could go out on a Saturday night. But I think my grandparents were a lot stricter with my parents than that.”
Maybe this positive view of family life should not be unexpected. It is possible that the idea of teenage rebellion is not rooted in real facts. A researcher comments,“Our surprise that teenagers say they get along well with their parents comes because of a brief period in our social history when teenagers were regarded as different beings. But that idea of rebelling and breaking away from their parents really only happened ring that one time in the 1960s when everyone rebelled. The normal situation throughout history has been a smooth change from helping out with the family business to taking it over.”
67. What is the popular image of teenagers today? A. They worry about school.
B. They dislike living with their parents. C, They have to be locked in to avoid troubles. D. They quarrel a lot with other family members.
68. The study shows that teenagers don’t want to__________ . A. share family responsibility B. cause trouble in their families C. go boating with their family D. make family decisions
69. Compared with parents of 30 years ago, today’s parents__________ . A. go to clubs more often with their children B. are much stricter with their children
C. care less about their children’s life D. give their children more freedom 70. According to the author, teenage rebellion__________ . A. may be a false belief B. is common nowadays
C. existed only in the 1960s D. resulted from changes in families
71. What is the passage mainly about?
A. Negotiation in family. B. Ecation in family. C. Harmony in family. D. Teenage trouble in family.
根據第一段“which is the opposite of the popularly-held image of unhappy teenagers locked in their room after endless family quarrels.”
根據第二段最後一句“They don’t want to rock the boat.”
根據第三段第一句“So it seems that this generation of parents is much more likely than parents of 30 years ago to treat their children as friends.”和Susan Crome的描述“Looking back on the last 10 years, there was a lot of what you could call negotiation.”
根據最後一段第二句“It is possible that the idea of teenage rebellion is not rooted in real facts.”
cultural
Not everyone in the world requires the same amount of living space. The amount of space a person needs around him is a cultural difference, not an economic one. Knowing your own psychological (心理的) space needs is important because they strongly affect your choices, including, for example, the number of bedrooms in the home. If you were brought up in a two-child family and both you and your sister or brother had your own bedrooms, the chances are,if you have two children or more, that you also will offer separate bedrooms for them. In America, for example, they train people to want to have their own rooms by giving them their own rooms when they are babies. This is very rare in the world. In many other countries, the baby sleeps in the same bed with his parents or in bed near them.
The space in the home also shows a lot about psychological space needs. Some families gather closer to each other and the size of their house has nothing to do with it. Others have separate little corners where family members go to bed alone.
Although it is true that psychological space needs are not decided by economic reasons, they sometimes have to be changed a little because of economic pressures. It is almost impossible, however,to completely change your psychological space needs.
1. The underlined sentence in Paragraph 1 means " ______ ". A. No two people need exactly the same amount of living space B. The requirements of living space are not always the same
C. The world requires the same amount of living space D. Nobody needs a required amount of living space
2. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A. Americans are trained to live in large rooms at birth. B. Economic situation decides one's amount of space needs.
C. People in various countries demand different psychological space. D. Knowing your psychological space needs is important, as it affects your future.

Moderation
One should be moderate(適度) in all things. Moderation is always the safest way to do things and a virtue(品質)we should have. Let's take the student life for example. There are some students who study too hard and play too little, while there are others who play too much and study too little. On one hand, it is harmful to his health if he has too few exercises, and on the other hand, it is harmful to his mind if he plays too much.
In the matter of eating, one also should be moderate. Do not eat too much or too little. Too much eating will make you sick, while too little eating will make you weak.
The man of progress is he who neither has too high an opinion of himself nor thinks too poorly of himself. If a man thinks too highly of himself, he is sure to become very proud, but if he has too poor an opinion of himself, he will have no courage to make an advance. Both the conditions above will make you lose your advancing aim. A broadminded man is he who always moves within the orbit (軌道)of reasonableness. Whether in any activities in life, moderation is one of the best ways to enjoy real happiness.
1.―Someone is moderate‖ means ______ .
A.he walks neither too fast nor too slowly
B.he has good characters and good ways to do things
C.he is not only safe but also successful
D.he is either tall or short
2.The writer suggests that a student should ______ .
A.have much more time to study than to play
B.spend most of the time playing different games

D.correctly arrange (安排)his time for study and play
3. Moderate eating means ______ .
A.eating as much food as one can if the food is tasty B.eating food rich of fat

4.If one wants to be broad-minded, he must ______ .

A
For a long time being happy was considered something that just happened, and there was nothing special about it. Now we know that getting along with other people is something that we can work at. It is possible to act in such a way that other people will like us better. One way is being unselfish, not wanting everything from our friends. Another way is to look for good points, not bad ones in other people. It is surprising how successful this treasure hunt can be. You don’t have to be spineless(沒有骨氣的.) in order to be popular. In fact, you will be liked and respected if you are not afraid to stand up for your rights. But do it politely and pleasantly. Being friendly and polite to your group, to other people and to strangers and especially to those who do not look important or do not interest you is one way to develop a good character. You can not expect to be perfect, and you must learn not to be unhappy when you make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, and no one is to be blamed unless he refuses to learn from them. Many young people become discouraged when they know in themselves qualities that they do not like—selfishness, laziness, and other unpleasant qualities. Just remember that we all have some of these faults and have to fight against them. At the same time, it is important to remember that, while you are probably no worse than others, the best way to be happy is to think yourself above other people. When something is wrong, it is good sense to try to make it right. Perhaps you don’t like a teacher or a classmate. Try to see why and look at yourself, too, to be sure that you are not doing anything to make that person dislike you. Some day, things may turn out all right and then you will have to learn to get along the best with situation, without thinking too much about it. Worrying never helps in a situation you can’t change. 21. According to the passage, if one wants to be popular he has to _____. A. be polite and friendlyB. give up some rights C. avoid arguing with other peopleD. be ready to change his or her character 22.The passage shows that there is no perfect person but everyone should be blamed if he _____. A. is no better than others B. is selfish and lazy C. does not draw a lesson from his own fault D. is very happy about his unpleasant quality .The passage implies that in order to be a happy person, one should consider oneself _____. A. no better than others B. not the same as others C. as having something better than others D. as having better chances than others .The purpose for the writer to write the passage is to _____. A. train you to be perfect B. show you the way to be happy C. tell you how to act when you dislike a person D. teach you how to be popular among your friends

Teamwork is all about working together to achieve a common goal or purpose. Is teamwork out of date? Why is it so hard to effectively conct teamwork in those days?
One way we employ teamwork in everyday lives is by becoming a parent. It is parents’ job to teach their children the basic skills and give them the knowledge they need to be successful in life. This,to me,requires teamwork. For example, the mother teaches her children manners and good health skills, while the father teaches them how to catch a ball or drive a car. However,in today’s society,we find that more and more parents are feeling that this teamwork is a onesided thing. According to a report, there are 13.7 million single parents raising their children in the US and this could be e to the fact that parents don’t take responsibility for their children,so they leave one parent to do it alone. This is a sad fact, and it reflects that effective teamwork is losing ground in the parenting aspect of our everyday lives.
Another place where teamwork affects us greatly is in our jobs. It doesn’t matter if you have a small company or a large company:if you have at least one employee and yourself, then teamwork works. I have noticed that with the current economic recession(衰退),people are racing to grab jobs but the quality of people’s work has gone down greatly. It just appears to me that people do not take pride in their work any more. They get to work as fast as they can, just to receive the paycheck, but their quality standards fly right out of the windows. So I think teamwork is losing ground in the workforce.
As you can see,we run into the aspects of teamwork in just about everything we do. Do you believe teamwork is really losing ground in today’s society?I think it is.
28.Why does teamwork disappear in the parenting aspect of our daily life?
A.Parents have no time to spare for their children.
B.Parents have no chances to teach their children about it.
C.Many children are often brought up by a single parent.
D.Many children are independent to deal with their matters.
29.Teamwork is losing ground in the workforce mainly because .
A.workers don’t like to work together with others
B.workers’ sense is affected by economic recession
C.workers want to prove they are more capable
D.fewer workers are employed to save money
30.The author wants us to believe his opinion by .
A.listing some data
B.giving some examples
C.asking some questions
D.analyzing some cases
31.The underlined phrase “fly right out of the windows” in Paragraph 3 means “ ”.
A.disappear B.Improve C.increase D.matter
D
Around four years ago,I received a call from the principal of our school as to the “Parents View” talk the next morning. He asked me to speak to the group. After the call,my whole body became feverish and panicky. The time from his call to the next morning seemed like years. The whole night,I could not sleep with many ominous apprehensions in mind. One of them was to call the principal with regret and tell him that I could not come. Finally,I gathered some courage. I thought,“If I miss this opportunity, surely the school will never invite me again to any of their programs.”
I reached the school in time. Before my turn came,my whole body was trembling. When my turn came and I started speaking,my heartbeat increased and my mouth went dry. I wasn’t even able to read the written speech properly. I was not aware of where I was standing and what I was reading. That was the day when I realized my biggest weakness:Public Speaking.
After my speech,I met with the principal and explained what happened to me. He told me that this happens to everyone. Even great speakers faced the same things when they started. He suggested that I come again next time.
Around one month later,I was invited to refer to a topic on motivation. This time I was feeling comfortable. My speech was appreciated by the principal as well as the teachers, because I was able to get my idea across to them. They encouraged me and praised my efforts.
After delivering it successfully,I became more confident. I said to myself,“If I can speak in front of such a learned audience, like the principal who ecates others,I can now speak in front of others too.”
I started delivering lectures on various topics like Self Motivation,Personality Development,Personal Excellence,Spoken English and Presentation Skills. This has become a passion for me. I have learned that everything is possible if we have the courage to take the first step.
32.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

A.he disliked the idea of giving a lecture
B.he had got a high fever before that
C.he regretted accepting the invitation

34.What does the underlined part “ominous apprehensions” in the first paragraph mean?
A.Unlucky opportunities. B.Negative ideas.
C.Curious views. D.Happy comments.
35.What can we conclude from the passage?
A.Nothing is to be got without pains but poverty.
B.Knowledge makes humble;ignorance makes proud.
C.A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
D.Necessity is the mother of invention.

Today’s the day of a big test at school, and you feel awful.___36___. Maybe your muscles feel tense and you feel shaky or sweaty. You may have a case of the jitters, also known as test anxiety.
___37_____. Performance anxiety is when a person feels worried about how they will perform, especially when it’s really important. For instance, you might feel performance anxiety when you’re trying out for the school band or for the basketball team.
When you’re taking a test, you might feel “butterflies”, a stomachache, or a tension headache. Some people might feel shaky, sweaty, or feel their hearts beating quickly as they wait for the test to be given out.____38_____
Sound familiar?___39____. Ask other people and you’ll find that just about all people---alts and other kids---feel some anxiety before a test. In fact, a small dose of anxiety can be helpful, keeping you sharp and focused. But when your symptoms(症狀) take over so that you can’t function or when you’re so anxious that you feel sick, you might not be able to do it.
Of course, if you didn’t study for the test, you might be worried---- and for good reason. That kind of anxiety isn’t as easy to tackle because even if you find a way to calm down, you still might not know what the right answers are.____40_____, you’ll be able to let your knowledge shine and score a good grade.
A You’re not alone.
B Surely you have test anxiety
C If you are not well prepared for the exam
D Your stomach hurts and you have a headache
E Test anxiety is actually a type of performance anxiety
F When you are prepared for the test and you get a handle on your anxiety

(Scanning)

But as autumn comes, locusts change to the same brown color as crops have. Some other insects with autumn comes, locusts change to the same brown color as crops have.
