過了一段時間，精衛下水去玩。三太子見了，心裡暗喜，心想：“我報仇的日子終於來了”。於是他就把精衛淹死了。精衛死後，變成了一隻小鳥。從此，她每天都去西山叼回些石子、木塊，丟到東海里。她不想再讓去東海的人們被淹死。
