【女生部】 英語風 =「英語傷風」？蔣群芳 發布時間：2007-11-1 12:41:38 編者按：由武漢大學學生會承辦的英語風采大賽系列活動在十月二十七日晚落下了帷幕。此次活動的主辦方為世界最負盛名的媒體之一BBC和湖北最具影響力的媒體公司湖北日報集團。在這樣的強強聯合下，本應給我們帶來的是一場英語大餐，人氣本應極其旺盛，然而其活動的實用性和在校園的影響力卻遠不如我們所預料的那樣。這究竟是為什麼呢？難道當英語風在中國越吹越勁時，我們的大學生反而患上了「英語傷風」？ 學生興趣不濃，英語學習功利化 也許是因為宣傳力度不夠，於10月26日晚在生命科學學院報告廳舉行的「BBC英語學習：New Times New English專題講座」的上座率不及50%。由於預想的火暴場面沒有出現，原本准備免費派送給到場觀眾的BBC英語光碟大量剩餘。當晚記者對未觀看講座的學生進行了小范圍內的采訪，發現他們大都沒有聽說過這個活動，並且表示即使知曉，也沒有特別濃厚的興趣。這著實讓筆者費解，英語作為21世紀必不可少的工具之一，其重要性不言而喻，為何英語講座會受到如此冷落？ 「離考試很遠，而且英語的學習是長期性的，聽一兩次這樣的講座，很難有長足性的進步。」這是受訪者給記者的答案。確實，若論實際的有用性，偶爾的英語講座的確承載不了太多。「講座確實很有趣，氣氛很輕松愉快，但是內容不是太簡單了，就是跟我們所要用的英語不相關。」聽了講座的觀眾如是反映。從這些說法里，我們大概可以看出，英語學習存在的普遍性問題，那就是：大學英語學習愈來愈功利化，趣味性越來越弱。 筆者不禁反思，當我們完全把英語當作一種工具來學習時，真不知道是中國人的悲哀呢，還是英國人的悲哀？ 選手水平不高，比賽精彩度不夠 10月27日晚，「2007BBC網上英語有獎大賽決賽」在生命科學學院報告廳敲響戰鼓。可是，選手水平不高，使得比賽的可觀賞性和激烈程度降低。有的觀眾表示，冠軍的人選幾乎毫無懸念，其他選手根本無法與其抗衡。明顯的語法錯誤，口語的不流利，甚至一些選手用英語進行的現場回答引起了觀眾的唏噓。賽後，外籍評委主席點評時談到學習外語的困難，委婉的表明了選手質量的不高。湖北日報集團的代表江作蘇教授在接受記者采訪時也認為選手英語水平「良莠不齊」。 照理說，決賽的選手錶現不應只是如此，問題的症結還在於——我們的英語很難過「說」這一關。BBC Learning Englishi的監制Mr.Mitchell受訪時說道：「中國學生有著出色的語法知識，他們的交流能力卻相對遜色。」看來，怎樣讓學生把英語「脫口而出」，才是英語推廣活動真正要動的腦筋。 英語，為何你這樣紅？ 數不盡的英語雜志，數不盡的英語培訓班，數不盡的英語大賽，英語市場的潛力叫人嘆為觀止。而我校承辦的這次活動不過順應了時代發展的趨勢。人們可曾問過：英語，你為何這樣紅？ 江作蘇教授接受采訪時這樣說道：「隨著中國對外開放的程度不斷加深……黨委政府都相當重視英語這種國際化的語言工具的推廣普及，而媒體就理所應當的擔負起這個責任…… 中國的產品已經走向了國際市場，中國的人才也應走出國門，走遍世界。我們不能一直停留在依靠翻譯的階段。」從江教授的話語中我們可以知道，經濟的發展是動因，而政府和媒體對英語的推廣則起了推波助瀾的作用。 BBC的Mr.Escolme更是旗幟鮮明的指出:「因為當今英語國家的數目很多，而且他們多半是發達國家，他們在國際上的政治和經濟影響，我想，可能幫助了英語的傳播……BBC WORLD SERVICE 受政府要求，有義務服務於大眾，Inform（公告），Entertain（娛樂） and Ecate（教育）。它的責任包括『傳播英語』，BBC Learning English就是承擔這一任務的非贏利性組織。」由此可見，不僅中國人自己忙乎著推廣英語，英語國家也樂意做這個傳播者。因為對於英國來說，這也是把自己國家的文化推向世界的好機會。可以說，這是個互利共贏的事。 尾聲 英語風采大賽已經結束，但它所留給我們的思考卻遠沒有中止。也許當我們真正透過「風采」的背後看到問題的症結所在，我們所傾全力所舉辦的英語大賽才能真正「風采」起來……
