Mo Yan, formerly known as Guan Moye, was born on February 17, 1955 in Dalan Ping'an Village, Northeast Township Cultural Development Zone, Gaomi City, Shandong Province.

Vice-Chairman of the Chinese Writers Association, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2012, is also the first Chinese writer to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.

In 1981, he began to publish his work Rain on a Spring Night. In 1984, he became famous for Transparent Carrots.

In 1986, the novella Red Sorghum Family published in People's Literature magazine caused a great sensation in the literary world.
