怎样提高英文文献的阅读能力
已经快开题了，我下载了一些英文的文献来阅读，然而发现自己阅读英文文献的能力实在太差：一篇中文的文献，我一般花半小时读完，而一篇同样长度或略长一些的英文文献，却要花四五个小时才能看完一遍，而且看到后面就忘记了前面，感觉真是寸步难行！显然，英文文献阅读能力的不足已经成为一个我不得不重视和必须解决的问题了。同时我想，这也许是许多科研的新手都会遇到的一个问题。那么这个问题的原因是什么？有什么解决办法呢？经过分析，我总结出了一些方法来提高自己的英文文献阅读水平。
首先，是缺乏相关的知识。如果中文的文献都难以看懂，那英文文献难以看懂就不足为怪了。事实上，有许多的文献即使翻译成中文，我想自己也是难以看懂的，因为有许多的知识、名词我不理解。例如，如果不知道火箭电泳的原理，又怎能看懂包含这个方法的段落呢？所以，基础知识的问题，是引起阅读难的首要问题，而解决的方法自然是学习好相关的知识。
其次，是有很多的词汇不认识。不认识单词，自然无法理解。不过这个倒是比较好解决的一个问题，因为同一课题常见的词汇就那么多，看多了自然就熟悉了。对于这个问题，解决的方法也简单，就是记住常用的词汇，多看文献，自然就认识了。对于医学方面的论文而言，有一个非常有用的软件《新编全医药学大辞典》，收词量巨大，好像是30万以上吧！而且有多种功能，可以在PDF文档取词，可以建立生词本以方便复习等等，几乎所有的医学词汇都可以查到。
此外，医学论文（其他的科技论文应该也是如此）有一个特点就是长句和难句很多。常常是一个句子长达三四十个单词或更多，读完一句往往不知所云。阅读这样的论文，其痛苦是不言而喻的。我阅读中国人或日本人的英文文章时发现很好阅读，而有些英美国家的作者写的文章就要难很多，原因就是中国和日本的作者写的句子短一些、简单一些。这个问题解决的方法就是要增强自己阅读长难句的能力。方法一是推荐新东方杨鹏的《GRE&GMAT阅读难句教程》，该书的核心思想就是：长难句难以理解的原因是平时阅读的太少、不熟悉，而反复地阅读长难句，自然孰能生巧，下次在遇到这样的句子就容易理解了。他总结了GRE考试和GMAT考试中各100多个长难句，并表示只要读者反复阅读到觉得每一个句子都非常自然的时候，阅读能力就会大为长进。而我试用该方法，觉得确实非常有效而且简单易行。在花了三四天时间看完GRE的长难句一遍以后，我再去阅读以前觉得难以看懂的论文，发现简单许多！当时真的很高兴，因为还没有达到他所说的要求就有如此明显的效果了。方法二是从难以看懂的论文中找出一些特别难的句子或段落（有些像杨鹏的方法）然后反复的看，直到没有任何障碍。三是找一些有代表性的难以看懂的论文反复的阅读，直到速度提高到与看中文文章相同为止。
有时并不需要详细的阅读全文，这时速读、跳读的能力就很重要了。由于平时极少进行这方面的练习，大部分人不习惯于这种阅读方式。所以，为了提高阅读速度，还应该进行相应的训练。方法一是快速的阅读重要内容，如标题，摘要，小标题等比较大写的地方。二是在文章中寻找特定的信息，如找一个特定的词汇、一个人名、地名，或某种方法等。三是进行速读的练习，可以参考速读方面的书籍或杨鹏的那一本书。其实也比较简单，就是我们平时一次只看一个单词，而现在一次看几个单词甚至一个句子，这样速度自然加快了。
其实英文文献的阅读能力说到底还是熟能生巧的问题，看的多了自然速度会快起来。虽然上面归纳了许多方法，然而如果没有大量的阅读做基础，这些方法也不会起到很好的效果。所以，接下来我要做的就是大量的阅读和练习！
