Marvin Minsky is often called the Father of Artificial Intelligence. His work helped inspire the creation of the personal computer and the Internet.
Artificial Intelligence
Before Minsky, computers were more like calculators, performing math operations at speeds much faster than humans. Minsky was the first to say that computers can one day be as intelligent as human beings. He was so convinced about this, that in 1959, he and his friend John McCarthy invented the term “Artificial Intelligence” at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Minsky wrote a book called Perceptrons, describing a particular type of “artificial neural(神经的) network”. Neural networks have made a comeback in a new field of Computer Science called Deep Learning. Deep Learning is used to recognize things and people in pictures , language translation( try Google Translate sometimes), and so on.
Robotics, Microscopes and Virtual Reality
How many of you have done Robotics at school and loved it? You have Minsky to thank again, for his work on Robotics. One of his biggest inventions was the confocal scanning microscope, an instrument that is still widely used today in medical and scientific research.
Minsky was really futuristic. He created one of the first head-mounted graphics displays(头戴式图形显示), which gave rise to the exciting area of Virtual Reality.
Minsky’s major prediction that computers will one day become as intelligent as humans is now called the Theory of Singularity.
29. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. Minsky himself invented the term “Artificial Intelligence” in MIT.
B. Minsky transformed computer into a machine more intelligent than human beings.
C. Apart from Information Technology, Minsky’s invention is also used in medical field.
D. Minsky invented a headset, with which players can play games in a 3-D environment.
30. Which is NOT the function of Deep Learning?
B. Spot items in Google Photos.
C. Summarize main idea of a passage. D. Translate English into French.
31. Which is NOT one of Minsky’s characteristics according to the passage?
A. Farsighted. B. Creative. C. Pioneering. D. Considerate.
32. In which section of a newspaper can you read this passage?
A. Technology. B. Travel. C. Environment. D. Life.
根据文章第四段的句子“One of his biggest inventions was the confocal scanning microscope, an instrument that is still widely used today in medical and scientific research.”
根据文章第三段的句子“Deep Learning is used to recognize things and people in pictures , language translation( try Google Translate sometimes), and so on.”
根据文章第一段的句子“His work helped inspire the creation of the personal computer and the Internet.”可知,Minsky是有创造力的;根据第二段的“Minsky was the first to say that computers can one day be as intelligent as human beings.”
O(∩抄_∩)O~你好~

阅读时常常抓住时间这条主线,弄清when、where、who、what、why与how。

1) The purpose in writing this text is to __________.
2) The author writes this passage to __________.
3) The author in this passage intends to __________.
1) It can be inferred from the passage that __________.
2) What conclusion can be drawn from the passage?
3) From the passage we can conclude that __________.
1)The passage is most likely to be taken from_________.
2)Where would this passage most probably appear?
3)The passage is most likely a part of_________.
1.which of the following is (not)true or false ?
2.All of the following statements are wrong except _____
3.All of the following statements are right/true except _____.
4.Which of the following is not mentioned in the passage /text?
Which of the following describes one’s logic in doing sth ?
Which of the following shows the correct order of what happened to …?
Choose the right order of the following events in …
The panda is a popular animal. Stories about the panda in the Washington Zoo are always front page news and important features on television newscasts. Stuffed pandas are among the most popular toys for children, and panda postcards are always
in demand in zoo gift shops.
SEFC 3A Feed the World(2)
Reasons for world hunger
In EU: 1) Food is bought from farmers and thrown away.
2) Farmers are paid not to grow crops.
In India: Most land is owned by rich land owners.
In less developed countries: Farmers are forced to plant cash
crops.
In western countries: Grain is fed to beef cattle.
Annealing
Annealing is a way of making metal softer by heating it and then letting it cool very slowly. If metal is heated and then cooled very quickly, for example by dipping (浸) it in water, it will be very hard but also very brittle-that is, it will break easily. Metal that has been annealed is soft but does not break as easily. It is possible to make metal as hard or as soft as it is wished, by annealing it. The metal is heated, and allowed to cool slowly for a certain length of time. The longer the heated metal takes to cool slowly, the softer it becomes. Annealing can also be used on other material, such
as glass.
1. Why do people put hot metal in water?
A. To make it hard. B. To make it soft.
C. To make it cool. D. To make it brittle.
2. In annealing, the required hardness of metal depends on __.
A. the quantity of water used B. the temperature of the metal
C. the softness of the metal D. the timing of the operation
3. As suggested by the text, how can glass be made less brittle?
A. It can be heated and then cooled quickly.
B. It can be cooled and then heated slowly.
C. It can be heated and then cooled slowly.
D. It can be cooled and then heated quickly.
The metal is heated,…length of time.","The longer…the softer it becomes."cool 的时间是可以控制的,时间越长越 soft,即硬度就越低。
a. 定义法
如:Annealing is a way of making metal softer by heating it and then letting it cool very slowly.
It will be very hard but also very brittle------that is , it will break easily.
The herdsman , who looks after sheep, earns about 650yuan a year.
They traveled a long way , at last got to a castle, a large building in old times.同位语部分a large building in old times 给出了 castle 的确切词义,即"城堡"。
We are on the night shift----from midnight to 8 a.m.---this week.
c. 对比法
如:She is usually prompt for all her class, but today she arrived in the middle of her first class. but 一词表转折,因此but 前后的意思正相反。
Perhaps, we can see some possibilities for next fifty years. But the next hundred? possibility
e. 因果法
如:The lack of movement caused the muscles to weaken。Sometimes the weakness was permanent。So the player could never play the sport again.
Would you like to do some shopping together with me? If you are free, please ring me back to tell me about it."
59. The writer’s purpose in writing this story is ________.
A. to tell an interesting experience
B. to show the easiest way out of difficulty
C. to describe the trouble facing a newly married woman
D. to explain the difficulty of learning to cook from books
As I was not experienced in cooking , I thought if a dozen was good , two dozen would be better , so I doubled everything .…I had been defeated , I put the dough in the rubbish bin outside so I wouldn’t have to face Doug laughing at my work , …I don’t know who was more embarrassed(尴尬)by the whole thing Doug or me. (The easy way out isn’t always easiest)不合; D反映作者写作目的是解释从书本上学烹饪的困难,也不对,因为作者并未详细介绍主人公从书本上学烹饪是如何力不从心的; 主人公并不会天天面对这种烦恼,选项C为错误答案。
Why isn’t your newspaper reporting any good news? All I read about is murder, bribery(),and death.Frankly,I’m sick of all this bad news.
This author’s attitude towards the newspaper reporting is to ______ .
A. complain B. apologize
C. amuse D. inform
We are in the computer age.We often see computers at work. They are especially useful in automatic control, data processing(数据处理)and solving complicated problems. And they are finding their way into the home. The part played by computers is becoming even more important with each passing day.
More and cleverer computers will continue to appear. They will run faster, have more functions and work much more skillfully. They will take over more tasks from us,helping to change the face of our world. Some people even think that sooner or later computers will replace us.
However...
Which of the following statements will best continue the third paragraph?
A. Computers will soon stop developing.
B. Many people like computers very much.
C. Computers are as clever as man.
D. I do not think computers will replace us completely.
例 NMET1996 A篇
53. After reading the story what can we infer about the hospital?
A. It is a children’s hospital.
B. It has strict rules about visiting hours.
C. The conditions there aren’t very good.
D. The nurses and doctors there don’t work hard.
It’s a fine hospital意思相矛盾。 I told her about the hospital rules, and she will not expect us until tomorrow.
