初三英语阅读理解【1】
There are over 800 boarding (寄宿) schools in the UK with students from home and foreign countries. Boarding schools started hundreds of years ago in the country. But the earliest boarding schools were set up for white, rich boys only. Now both boys and girls can go to boarding schools from the age of 7 to 18.
What to do
In the UK, boarding schools have three terms in a school year, with about 13 weeks in each term. Students study and live together. They can’t go outside if they are not allowed to. In some schools, each student has his or her subject plan. Besides the usual classrooms and laboratories, the boarding schools have lots of other facilities for their students, including music rooms, boats, swimming pools, cinemas and theatres. Most boarding schools have a “light out” time. So when it’s time to go to bed, all the lights in the bedrooms are turned off. There are house-masters to take care of students all the time, especially after school hours.
What to wear
Nearly all students at boarding schools wear a school uniform. Boys usually wear a shirt and a tie, and girls wear a white blouse, sometimes also a tie and a skirt. As students get older, the rules become less strict.

In the UK, boarding schools provide students with delicious food. They can choose to have a full English breakfast or simply bread. They can also choose between a meal with no meat and another meal at lunch and dinner. And there is always self-service for salad (沙拉), other side dishes and a dessert. A friend of mine named Paul received an expensive car from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin (顽童) was walking around the shining car. “Is this your car, Paul?” he asked.
Paul answered, “Yes, my brother gave it to me for Christmas.” The boy was surprised. “You mean your brother gave it to you and it cost you nothing? Boy, I wish…” He hesitated (犹豫).
Of course Paul knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the boy said surprised Paul greatly.
“I wish,” the boy went on, “that I could be a brother like that.” Paul looked at the boy in surprise, and then he said again, “Would you like to take a ride in my car?”
“Oh yes, I’d love that.”
After a short ride, the boy turned around with his eyes shining, said, “Paul, would you mind driving in front of my house?”
Paul smiled a little. He thought he knew what the boy wanted. He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big car. But Paul was wrong again. “Will you stop where those two steps are?” the boy asked.
He ran up to the steps. Then in a short while Paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. He was carrying his little crippled (残疾的) brother. He sat him down on the step and pointed to the car.
“There he is, Buddy, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Christmas and it didn’t cost him a cent. And some day I’m going to give you one just like it…then you can see for yourself all the nice things in the Christmas windows that I’ve been trying to tell you about.”

When I was a foreign teacher in China, every day I taught English to my students and they taught me about China. One day the topic turned to saying “I love you”. I was shocked to learn that not one of my students had said this to their mothers, nor had their mothers said it to them. “Does your mom love you?” “Of course,”they answered.
“How do you know ?”was my logical question. They responded that their mons cooked and always told them what they were doing wrong to show their caring. I was stunned .So mon’s cooking and criticzing read out as “I love you ”. “Then how do you say ‘I love you ’to her?” They agreed that getting good grades, followed by god jobs would be how they showed their love.
I come from a culture where most people are expressive enough, so I repeated these queries in classes over time. Graally, I began to get different response. Some of them had exchanged those sentiments with their moms.
One of my favorite stories of change came from a girl. When she came home from university, her mother met her at the door and hugged(拥抱)her. This had never happened before, but her mom said, “Now that you have gone I have more time to myself. I noticed that in some places mothers and children hug each other and I decided it was a good idea and that I would begin hugging you.”
In my family we all say “I love you” a lot .While it is true that we often say the words without having great depth of feelings at that moment, it is almost like a blessing we give each other. Those three little words carry a world of meaning ,even when said as a greeting, but most especially if they are the last words we say to or hear from those we love.

阅读重要还是口语重要?

01 你不必走的弯路
在选择送卡姐去机构前,她爸爸和我目标明确:幼儿启蒙一定要有标准的发音,最怕的是虽然会说但满口塑料味。可能是因为我们的执念太深,所以并不是很看重启蒙阶段的教学内容。试听了多家机构后,爸爸又在同一家机构试听了4次,挑了一个发音和授课都很满意的美国老师(也是卡姐人生中第一个老师)万事俱备只等上课,一节课下来孩子上得快乐,大人看得开心,回家把教的单词句子复习几遍,书一关!大功告成了!我以为我能做到的也就如此了!
因为去机构前有家庭启蒙的关系,所以上起课来并不吃力,感觉玩着玩着一节课就结束了。偶尔还得到老师的表扬,突然就有点飘了。心想,卡姐还不满3岁,能跟上老师的节奏还表现突出,老母亲这钱没白花。小半年后问题来了,老师说的话她能明白,但是表达的时候来来回回就那几句,还要边说边比划。这才意识到,输入太少了,靠课堂里的内容根本不够,开始给她买英文绘本。
怎么选绘本?“投其所好”,选购方式可参考“i+1”原则,简单来说就是在可理解范围内,稍微的增加难度。让孩子既能大致明白,又不至于失去兴趣,+1的部分就是你即将要开始探究的新领域,慢慢的阅读能力也逐步提升。不建议0基础一来就分级阅读读,除了初级趣味性不足以外,还有一个重要的原因,0基础的孩子不会结合已知词汇猜测大意,更是大大减少阅读兴趣。下面有图有真相,看了就明白了。

02 培养阅读兴趣
卡姐的第一本英文绘本是《Go Away,Big Green Monster》
页面设计巧妙,内容也很有趣。先是爸爸读,她看图片,帮助她理解句子的意思和不懂的单词。大概重复了一周之后,开始教她一句一句的读,每天教2页。直到这本书能自己磕磕巴巴读完,然后是每天自己阅读复习。直到能很流利的读完后,我发现她开始对内容有了更深的理解,从她戏精般的神情就能看出来。接着同样的方法又继续阅读了《I am a bunny》系列的所有绘本
接着是《NO,DAVID》,《How do you feel》等等。慢慢的越来越喜欢读英文绘本,当然这也和我们每天拍她马屁有关,可能这种彩虹屁太多了,她无处安放的喜悦都要溢出来了!
有次跟我去超市,本来走得好好的,突然看到收银台人多,凑过去就开始读绘本里的内容,哈哈哈,可是老头老太太们忙着付钱,没人搭理她,但人家热情依然不减,这种情况又出现过好几次。老母亲只好笑笑,迅速把她拉走,然后悄悄的接着又是一通马屁,拍得她找不到东南西北。
阅读的好处并不是短期能呈现的,需要时间的积累和不断的重复,但是语感是短期内能比较明显体现出来的。

03 重点推荐
前面的准备都是接下来的伏笔,新手家长可以拿起你手中的小本本。
每篇文章我都不同程度的提到了分级阅读,我又要来再啰嗦一遍。不想看字的直接跳过,直接去文章末尾按步骤领分级阅读资料吧。
分级阅读是鸡娃界的头号扛把子, 出自不同门派却有着同样的江湖地位,很难说谁好谁差。分级阅读具有科学性、针对性及系统性。随着分级读物级别的提升,孩子摄入的词汇量从易到难、句子从短到长、阅读理解难度逐渐提升不仅能很好地培养孩子的语言能力,扩展其知识面,还能为后面的桥梁书籍阅读打下很好的基础。
有人把《RAZ》作为衡量一个孩子英语阅读水平的风向标,有的人是《海尼曼》的脑残粉,还有的人把《牛津阅读树》视为神坛,还有全球顶级的英语教育专家撰写的《培生分级阅读》,还有《大猫》、《兰登》等。不需选太多,挑选两个,持之以恒就可以。在阅读过程中,不用担心孩子到底是在背还是在读,高频词出现概率高,看得多了自己能记住。
前面已经介绍过《牛津阅读树》和《海尼曼》,今天重点介绍一下分级阅读三巨头之---RAZ(Reading A—Z),它的大名在江湖如雷贯耳,但是怎么实操?怎么用好这些资源你真的知道吗?今天以学龄前为主,主要介绍下aa—j级。
RAZ aa-A级: 视觉词+图片记忆 RAZ B-G级: 通用刷法 RAZ H-J级: 进阶级精读法RAZ aa-A级难度如下表所示:
aa和A是RAZ中最初级的,从蹦单词到重复短句。aa每页有2-3个单词,用很简单的图片来解释这个单词的意思。比如介词in out over under off on jump over...还有数字one-twelve季节spring summer fall winter学校the school,the classroom,luch at school等

进入A级后,每张图片对应的不再只是单词了,两张图片对比呼应比如In and Out,“go in / go on”:
简单句型出现频率高了,比如The Forest的句型是“This is a ...”
不认识单词,没关系,拼读或者看图猜词,先打个照面,把视觉词汇和听力词汇对应上,然后在后续阅读的同级别或更高级别中反复遇见,从而达到记忆目的。
第一次读RAZ Reading绘本建议家长带读,如果家长口语不是特别好,可以听音频纠音。带读的意义在于鼓励孩子读出声,如果孩子看图片猜词读,也不要打断和纠正,能猜出来也很了不得!
B-G级:
1.泛读为主,听、读、理解、讨论2. 整体认读,能进行简单的自然拼读,掌握大部分的高频词,培养解读词义和阅读技巧。RAZ B-G级难度如下表所示:
在读之前可以先听音频, 裸听! 如果你还不确定孩子现在的级别,可以随便找一本让他自己读,大部分能自读出来,就听下一个级别的;如果卡顿超过5个就听这个级别的。
我自己还有个小方法,如果觉得有用可以参考,反之..我跟卡姐说玩一个故事大王的游戏,哈哈,步步在套路她。套路一:多次裸听之后,让她试着用自己的语言把听到的内容讲一遍。套路二:如果确实表述不清,可以快速看一下书的画面(只是画面),帮助回忆听到的内容。表述过程中会听到有多次裸听后记住的,也有根据自己理解组织的句子,这个过程大大锻炼了听力和口语能力。
卡姐开开心心的当了“故事大王“,还连比带划的。她爸从身边走过,悄悄的对我说:“哎,可怜的孩子又中计了”。我突然发现,想出这个点子证明我脑子也有灵光的时候,哎..且用且珍惜吧。
网上还有画思维导图的方式,我觉得也很赞!大家可以试一下研究一个属于你们家庭的小游戏。
RAZ的另一亮点就是,同一主题的内容会在各个级别中相互关联,单词量和内容难度逐渐上升,故事的描述也更详细生动。所以不必理解太深通改透彻,在读到高级别时,孩子可以在复习原内容的基础上,不断提升阅读表达能力。
*有此标识,表示在F,I,M级别中的内容是同一个主题。 比如三只小猪的故事,第一次在Level F出现:
第二次在Level I出现,原来一页的内容,在这里扩展成了两页,增加了对三只小猪离家的细节和第一只小猪建完房子以后吃饭的细节描述。
第三次在Level M出现,这次故事再次拓展,增加了目录和更多的环境和背景描写。比如三只小猪的居住环境增加了“in a quiet little town”,之前的“one day the pigs left home”也扩展成为“one day the pig decided it was time to leave their mother's home”
进阶阶段:H—J级
RAZ H-J级难度如下表所示:
从这个级别开始,阅读就不仅仅是朗读了,除了能够读出每个单词,还需要运用和使用各种方法来把书读懂,读透了。就像自然拼读是流利朗读的高效工具,阅读技巧也是读书和阅读理解的有力支撑。这个阶段是需要家长最最最用心带着孩子进行精读精听的阶段。
1.读封面、标题,每一个词都要读,画面每一个细节都要讲。如果孩子有不理解的地方,家长尽可能的用英语解释。我的英语有多烂只有我自己知道,可能在卡姐面前是我说得最自信的时候。我依然厚着脸皮用英语给她解释不懂的单词或句子,然后她会说:“哎,我一提问你就这样,又来了”。 她太不懂老母亲的艰辛了,为了说点英语我容易吗!还好说了一通她最后都能猜到意思。
2.每页每个单词每幅图都要读,不放过任何一个知识点,多跟孩子一起讨论。如果像我一样听优于说的家长,可以用中文提问,孩子用英文回答。如果都不能,那就一起用中文讨论,然后孩子在理解的基础上继续精读。
3.根据目录提问,做结构分析,回顾内容。
这是一套非常详尽的分级阅读资料,从基础单词的触碰,到句子的理解,再到文章的分析,以及天文地理的知识灌输。只要是学英语的国家,没有人不知道这套分级阅读读物,称它为分级阅读鼻祖一点不过。
