而这两方面反映到具体的阅读英语能力上表现为很多学生读到一个复杂一点的英语句子不能立刻反映出这句话的意思,即使这句话中的单词都认识的情况下,也不能通过一遍阅读出这句话的整体意思。其实,这都是对于被动式接受信息的能力没有掌握造成的。
一、传统阅读方式的过程剖析
在学校里,很多老师传授的阅读句子的方法往往是通过分析英语句子的语法结构来帮助理解句子的意思。也就是说,当看到一个复杂的英语句子而不能理解句子意思时,首先要分析出句子的主要成分主语、谓语和宾语;以及其他相关的修饰成分修饰词或是修饰从句。再根据主次意思,按照分析出的复杂结构,把每个分句的意思拼装成整句话的意思去理解。比如以下这个例子:

我们看到,加题的目的是在不改变句子本身所表达的意思的前提下,恢复从句中省略掉的部分使句子的意思更为完整,更为合理。加词的目的仅是能让我们连贯句子的语义,使意思理解得更为合理。因此,在加词的过程中可以大胆地加入一些原文没有写出的含义。一些比如是不是,有没有,能不能这样的在中文中根本没有实质性意思的词语可以随意地加入到句子中,而不会改变原句的意思。
4.对于英语语序的理解
作为一门语言,英语的表述习惯非常一致。所有的英文句子主要的结构都是两部分:首先提出一个具体的事物(这个句子谈论的是什么?);然后围绕这个事物展开一个论述(所谈论的事情/所说的东西怎么样了)。只有把这两部分内容说清楚,这句话才算是完整。语言的表述特点和上几节中我们谈到的语义完整性的原则是一致的。也就是说,只有一句话符合什么东西(人)/什么事情+怎么样的结构模式,句意才是完整的,这时才可以结束这句话进行断句。如果一个较长的句子中出现多个事物,那么在同一句话内也必须一一出现对其相应的描述。
在读英语句子时,只有感觉到句子中前面所说的什么东西/什么人后面出现说这个东西/这个人怎么样的时候,这时一个语意才算是说得完整,就可以在后面断句。而在读句子时,如果什么东西/什么人后面还没有出现相应的怎么样的描述时,这时我们要意识到前面的句子内容还不可以结束,必须等到后面出现了相应的描述后才可以设置断点。比如下面这个句子:
