首先要根据自己的读英语的目的选择合适的材料。
以考四六级为目的，诵读材料当然首先推选《四六级真题》。
可以朗读四六级的听力材料，因为听力有音频，一来可以纠正自己的发音问题，二来可以熟悉四六级的听力出题点，知己知彼百战不殆。还可以读阅读部分，这样可以培养自己的语感，对于做阅读理解也很有帮助。
纯粹的文学欣赏
可以推荐《飞鸟集》，当你读这本书时候，你会读到“If you shed tears when you miss the sun, you also miss the stars.”这样唯美而又充满哲学韵味的诗句。也会读到“Listen, my heart, to the whispers of the world with which it makes love to you.”这样充满爱的情调。
如果你实在懒得选择，那么，《新概念2、3》也会是不错的选择。

其实都差不多,阅读水平的提高不是一朝专一夕的事属情,一定要多看,经常看自然就会熟悉了,只有多看注意总结阅读能力自然就会提高.另外单词语法也一定要看,词汇量的大小直接影响你的阅读,起码单词你的认识吧,不然还谈什么阅读啊,语法就是要你看懂句子的结构,长哪句分析,能看懂,这样文章的难度自然就降下来了.
阅读能力的提高靠的是平时的积累,只有每天坚持看,才能可能提高阅读的能力.

《意林 双语阅读》
书籍的话，符合你水平的最好的应该是《 Chicken Soup for the Soul（心灵鸡汤） 》系列，一方面可以学习英文，一方面可以提高你对英文写作的美感感知，另外该系列的文章都是比较短小精悍的，却具有很深刻的人生哲理，值得一读。
ps,虽说你不要大学英语教材，但是我还是要强烈推荐我们北外的精读教材，外研社的《现代大学英语》 杨立民主编 ，编排结构信息量都不错。。。不知你为什么排斥~
