Many of you are using the SSP to improve your English. You are cutting out headlines, stories and pictures and pasting them in your notebooks. I have seen some of your work and it is very creative. The headlines, pictures and stories are cut and pasted on the left side pages of your notebooks. In the spaces between the cuttings, you have added clever drawings and clever comments. The right side pages of the notebooks you have used as word banks to build up your vocabulary.

The SSP is designed to be used in your schoolwork. The stories are written with the objective of being interesting and informative but they are also intended to help you with your studies. So it’s a good idea to save the SSP after you read it. So keep cutting up the SSP. I think it’s a great idea!

Every day, we watch or read all kinds of advertisements on TV, at the train stations, in newspapers and magazines, and even on buses and subways.

Advertisements have become part of our lives and we don’t even feel them. The advertisements give us some advice about goods and services. We can make our best choices according to some advertisements. For the sellers, the advertisements for their procts can make more people know their goods, and make their sales go up very quickly.

But there are also many disadvantages to advertisements. Too many advertisements waste our time. Sometimes, people have to meet the advertisements that they don’t like. Elephants are interesting animals with large ears, a long trunk, and short legs. They use their legs to stand and walk. Unlike lions and tigers, an elephant cannot use its legs to jump or run fast. But elephants do have something that most animals do not have —a trunk!
