A lawyer’s dog, running about unleashed, snatched a roast from a butcher’s market. The butcher hurried to the lawyer’s office and asked, “If a dog is running around unleashed and steals a piece of meat from my store, do I have a right to demand payment for the meat from the dog’s owner?”
The lawyer answered, “Absolutely.”
“Your dog was loose and stole a roast from me today. You owe me $9.80.”
The lawyer, without a word, wrote the butcher a check for $9.80. The next week, the butcher went to his mailbox to find a bill from the lawyer noting #50 for a consultation.
