After coming home, she feels so angry and discontented. 近年来，对于大学英语改革的呼声越来越高。蔡基刚的调研显示，62%的学生认为他们的英语水平在大学没有任何提高，甚至有36.2%的学生认为其英语水平跟中学时候相比，没有提升，反而下降了。大学英语课程到底要“教什么”“怎么教”？

中国地质大学(北京)外国语学院的学者刘伟，郭晓暹提出，大学英语教学须多样化和个性化。在汉斯出版社《创新教育研究》期刊上，学者们还详细阐述了多样化与个性化的大学英语课程该如何设置。
开展分级教学
根据《指南》对大学英语教学目标分成的基础、提高、发展三个等级，将大一新生在入学时进行分级考试，分三级开展大学英语教学。分别制订差异化的教学目标、教学内容、评估标准，规范分级的标准和依据、课堂管理，配备合理的师资等。由于目前 1 年制的大学英语教学模式已经被学生认可，2个学期的英语教学时间内不建议采取动态的管理机制，即不建议各级别学生在2个学期内有级别上的流动。从调查数据中看只有不到30%的同学愿意分级教学，10%多的同学认为教学内容或易或难，所以建议基础、提高、发展三个级别的比例为10%、70%、20%为宜。
训练自主学习
自主学习的能力是大学英语学习中不可或缺的能力。调查中发现87%的学生希望教师在课堂讲解字词、语法，75%的学生不能完成课后学习任务，72%的学生希望老师能监督其自主课堂的学习。这都充分说明，很多大学生缺乏主动学习的能力，缺乏合理安排时间的习惯。建议在大学英语课程中增加学习策略的培训，养成学生反思性学习的习惯，形成师生共同遵循周计划、月计划的教学模式。大学英语教学不同于中学英语的“题海战术”“保姆式服务”，它更多的要求学生能够在教师这个课程设计师的策划下，合作性、创造性地主动学习。
开设后续英语课
大学英语课程不止是一门课，而是一个课程体系。课题组的调查显示，高达89%的学生不认可大学英语教学质量，认为对自己的英语水平没有提升。可见，大学英语课堂需要后续课程来补充和完善。非英语专业大学生英语学习可分为三个阶段：通用英语阶段、桥梁课程阶段(ESP、学科英语或大学英语通识教育课程)和全英语/双语专业课程阶段。另外，还可以开设听说读写译技能类的后续英语课程。
丰富课后教学活动

有一点自始自终很明显：他真诚地相信自己最终也许会买一只布丁；而我也确信，他一点也不觉得自己是在欺骗商店。可怜的老头儿！很可能他已经家道败落。从前他是有钱来选购他最喜欢的布丁的，而今却只能这样来品尝一下布丁的味道了。

顾客个个喜形于色，为圣诞节忙着采购商品，看上去都很富裕。老人矮小的黑色身影在这群人中间显得很可怜，很不相称。我突然动了恻隐之心，走到他跟前说：

“请原谅，先生，能赏我个脸吗？让我为您买一只布丁吧。如果您肯收下，我将不胜欣慰。”

他往后一跳，仿佛被什么东西螫了一下似的，他那张布满皱纹的脸顿时涨得通红。

“对不起，”他说，其神态之高傲，远非我根据外表所能想象得出：“我想我跟您并不相识。无疑您是认错人了。”于是他当机立断，转向女店员，大声说道：“劳驾把这只替我包扎一下。我要带走的。”他指了指最大的也是最贵的一只布丁。

女店员从架子取下那只布丁，动手包扎。这时，他掏出一只破旧的黑色小皮夹子，开始一个先令一个便士地数着硬币，把它们放在柜台上。为了保住“面子，”他被迫买下了他实在买不起的东西。我多么希望能收回我那些不得体的话啊！然而为时已晚，我感到此时唯有走开才是最积德的事。

“请您到那边帐台上去付款。”女店员告诉他，但他好像没有听懂，只管把硬币往她手里塞。打这以后我再也没有看到这位老人，也没有听到过有关他的情况。现在他再也不会到那家商店去品尝布丁了。
