【女生部】 英语风 =“英语伤风”？蒋群芳 发布时间：2007-11-1 12:41:38 编者按：由武汉大学学生会承办的英语风采大赛系列活动在十月二十七日晚落下了帷幕。此次活动的主办方为世界最负盛名的媒体之一BBC和湖北最具影响力的媒体公司湖北日报集团。在这样的强强联合下，本应给我们带来的是一场英语大餐，人气本应极其旺盛，然而其活动的实用性和在校园的影响力却远不如我们所预料的那样。这究竟是为什么呢？难道当英语风在中国越吹越劲时，我们的大学生反而患上了“英语伤风”？ 学生兴趣不浓，英语学习功利化 也许是因为宣传力度不够，于10月26日晚在生命科学学院报告厅举行的“BBC英语学习：New Times New English专题讲座”的上座率不及50%。由于预想的火暴场面没有出现，原本准备免费派送给到场观众的BBC英语光盘大量剩余。当晚记者对未观看讲座的学生进行了小范围内的采访，发现他们大都没有听说过这个活动，并且表示即使知晓，也没有特别浓厚的兴趣。这着实让笔者费解，英语作为21世纪必不可少的工具之一，其重要性不言而喻，为何英语讲座会受到如此冷落？ “离考试很远，而且英语的学习是长期性的，听一两次这样的讲座，很难有长足性的进步。”这是受访者给记者的答案。确实，若论实际的有用性，偶尔的英语讲座的确承载不了太多。“讲座确实很有趣，气氛很轻松愉快，但是内容不是太简单了，就是跟我们所要用的英语不相关。”听了讲座的观众如是反映。从这些说法里，我们大概可以看出，英语学习存在的普遍性问题，那就是：大学英语学习愈来愈功利化，趣味性越来越弱。 笔者不禁反思，当我们完全把英语当作一种工具来学习时，真不知道是中国人的悲哀呢，还是英国人的悲哀？ 选手水平不高，比赛精彩度不够 10月27日晚，“2007BBC网上英语有奖大赛决赛”在生命科学学院报告厅敲响战鼓。可是，选手水平不高，使得比赛的可观赏性和激烈程度降低。有的观众表示，冠军的人选几乎毫无悬念，其他选手根本无法与其抗衡。明显的语法错误，口语的不流利，甚至一些选手用英语进行的现场回答引起了观众的唏嘘。赛后，外籍评委主席点评时谈到学习外语的困难，委婉的表明了选手质量的不高。湖北日报集团的代表江作苏教授在接受记者采访时也认为选手英语水平“良莠不齐”。 照理说，决赛的选手表现不应只是如此，问题的症结还在于——我们的英语很难过“说”这一关。BBC Learning Englishi的监制Mr.Mitchell受访时说道：“中国学生有着出色的语法知识，他们的交流能力却相对逊色。”看来，怎样让学生把英语“脱口而出”，才是英语推广活动真正要动的脑筋。 英语，为何你这样红？ 数不尽的英语杂志，数不尽的英语培训班，数不尽的英语大赛，英语市场的潜力叫人叹为观止。而我校承办的这次活动不过顺应了时代发展的趋势。人们可曾问过：英语，你为何这样红？ 江作苏教授接受采访时这样说道：“随着中国对外开放的程度不断加深……党委政府都相当重视英语这种国际化的语言工具的推广普及，而媒体就理所应当的担负起这个责任…… 中国的产品已经走向了国际市场，中国的人才也应走出国门，走遍世界。我们不能一直停留在依靠翻译的阶段。”从江教授的话语中我们可以知道，经济的发展是动因，而政府和媒体对英语的推广则起了推波助澜的作用。 BBC的Mr.Escolme更是旗帜鲜明的指出:“因为当今英语国家的数目很多，而且他们多半是发达国家，他们在国际上的政治和经济影响，我想，可能帮助了英语的传播……BBC WORLD SERVICE 受政府要求，有义务服务于大众，Inform（公告），Entertain（娱乐） and Ecate（教育）。它的责任包括‘传播英语’，BBC Learning English就是承担这一任务的非赢利性组织。”由此可见，不仅中国人自己忙乎着推广英语，英语国家也乐意做这个传播者。因为对于英国来说，这也是把自己国家的文化推向世界的好机会。可以说，这是个互利共赢的事。 尾声 英语风采大赛已经结束，但它所留给我们的思考却远没有中止。也许当我们真正透过“风采”的背后看到问题的症结所在，我们所倾全力所举办的英语大赛才能真正“风采”起来……
